I've come across numerous policys/guidelines that are flouted by trusts, in the 30 +years as a patient, it's improved a fair bit tho. Also a huge lack of common sense, nowt new there:) Happy thoughts!

all these years ... and I never knew I had CKD!!!!!
I just assumed CKD was an illness in itself ... like PKD or FSGS ...
jeez ... another acronym to add to my list
has anyone ever considered adding these acromyms after ones name ...
like one would with an O.B.E??!!

Ooo, good to see that they recommend laparoscopic insertion of peritoneal dialysis catheter - when I had mine done in 2005 it was open surgery, so now have an ugly 4 inch scar running down from my navel

Is there anywhere these guidelines can be viewed in a commonsense plain English kind of way?

Given that my 'team' of professionals consists about a dozen people, or does this come under terms such as supposed 'personalised care plan to suit the individuals needs'. Always looks good on paper

Interesting snippit I found on the possible problems with pathways:

May appear to discourage personalised care
Risk increasing litigation
Don't respond well to unexpected changes in a patient's condition
Suit standard conditions better than unusual or unpredictable ones
Require commitment from staff and establishement of an adequate organisational structure
Problems of introduction of new technology
May take time to be accepted in the workplace
Need to ensure variance and outcomes are properly recorded, audited and acted upon.

I better not have any unexpected changes in my condition, no wait, been there done that!!:) ROFL
The problem is it's guidance, has some interesting synonyms:)
