SCC Cancer and transplant.

Post by Grey »

Hi I have been diagnosed with Squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer after been offered a kidney transplant match. The powers that be are busy deciding if it will effect my chances or if I can have a transplant at all. Anyway does any one else have feedback on this complication perhaps you were diagnosed but still had a transplant or whatever. A very worried Grey !
After a long time of waiting an anonymous donor has arrived in my life.

Hi Grey I am afraid I cannot help you with any information about this. But just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about this, yet another complication to add to your worries, I really hope that the powers that be decide to go ahead with your transplant and that the cancerous growth can be treated and sorted out beforehand. Good luck Grey....Jan

Grey,

So sorry to hear your news.
I guess they are worried about the effects of immunosupression on someone with skin cancer. I know that skin cancer is more common in those on immunosuppressants. Does it depend on how completely they think they have removed the SCC.?

When do you get to hear?
I've got everything crossed for you.
Let us know what happens.

Grey,

I'm no doctor but have been transplanted and had a couple of SCC's.

My dermatologist said that in normal healthy people they aren't very serious.

When immunosuppressed there is a small chance that they can return many years later and be malignant. This meant that they"scraped" mine out totally.

From what i've been told it would seem you need to get it totally removed asap and when you are transplanted, see a dermatologist regularly so they can keep an eye on any possible recurrence.

Best of luck whatever the outcome.

Hi all, well today I saw the dermatologist who said this sort of cancer should not prevent a transplant, they have other cases where people have it and are on immunosuppressive dugs. Any way I still have a worrying wait while they all make their decisions.
