Chicken pox

Post by Unifluzie »

Hey all quick question

My littlest has picked up chickenpox from school, I've already had it but do I need to contact my unit to let them know? I read online that immune compromised people should see the doc but I don't know what I should do either way

Thoughts?

Hi Unifluzie,

This has come up on the forum before. Chickenpox can be serious for us. You can get tested to check you're immune - some people do get it twice - so maybe give the unit a call for advice.

Personally I'd wait and seek medical help only if I felt ill (like you I know I've had chicken pox). But I am on fairly low doses of immunosuppression.

Hope the little one is OK.

You could end up with shingles. My husband got shingles after his transplant and became very very poorly, in hospital for 3 weeks.

Get yourself checked out a.s.a.p.

I fully agree with everyone. Take no chances pre or post transplant. Your body is either weak from dialysis or suppressed.

Hope he doesn't try to scratch himself to bits!
Now 35 with Alports and I had my first kidney-versary 18th feb 2013....I hope to have many more.

My living donor and his family are doing all well.
