Re: Kidneyversary

That's a fantastic eGFR.

Sounds like your partner's going to live well for a long time with his transplant.

Re: Advice for a scared Wife - Heamo v APD

I did APD for just over three years using a Baxter machine and a Fresenius machine. I could disconnect temporarily from the Baxter machine several times during the night during the dwell periods, i.e. when the machine wasn't actually pumping fluid into or out of the abdomen. The machine might bleep ...

I saw my consultant every three months once I was stabilised on APD.

I had that call

Hi everyone, I did have a call for a transplant in February, but unfortunately that kidney was not viable. However, I had another call and received a deceased donor transplant on October 5th, after four years and three months on the waiting list. My new kidney had delayed graft function, partly beca...

Re: New to EVERYTHING Kidney Failure Related

Hi Ste, I've been on PD for three years now. I don't have a Blue Badge as I'm quite mobile, nor do I get any discount on my water bills. That may be for patients on haemodialysis, as that uses a lot of water. However, I do get a discount on my Council Tax, as one of my bedrooms is stacked high with ...

Re: PKD Nephrectomy Recovery.

Dear Grey,

Sounds like you are having a tough time at the moment.

12kgs for one kidney is incredible. Are you feeling a bit lopsided now?

I really hope you're feeling better soon.

Best wishes,
Mandy

Re: PKD Nephrectomy

Dear Grey,

No tips for you I'm afraid...
I just wanted to wish you the very best of luck.
Hope it all goes smoothly and doesn't impact your PD in any way.

Re: Secondary hyperparathyroidism

I am currently taking 15mg Cinacalcet a day for this, and have been told that if things don't improve, I will need to have my parathyroid glands removed.

Re: Peritonal dialysis

I had drain pain during the initial and final drains for two and a half years. My APD machine was programmed to do tidal exchanges the rest of the time.

Finally solved this recently by switching from a Baxter to a Fresenius machine.

Re: No paired match so PD it is.......

You may not be ready to go back to school in September.... I am a teacher too (primary). I had my PD catheter inserted in the first week of the September term three years ago, and went back to work four days a week just before the October half term. I only work four days a week, but this was very to...

Re: No paired match so PD it is.......

I had to wait four weeks after my PD catheter was inserted, before they had a dialysis training place available for me. During the four weeks, I had to keep going into the hospital regularly for blood tests etc. I assume that if there had been a rapid decline in my eGFR, I would have jumped the queu...

Re: Trolley for PD machine

I use a trolley from a schools catalogue (Morleys), which has a laminate top, 9 deep drawers underneath, and is on wheels. I use the drawers for all the small items..... spare wipes, hand rub, paper towels, connection caps, drain manifolds, scales, emergency contacts, instructions, dressings, clips,...

Re: Anyone on home APD can advise

Hi Fred,

What is supplied depends on what your hospital orders for you.

Baxters deliver every four weeks as standard, but can do more or less frequent deliveries if you have very limited/ extremely generous storage space.

They do carry everything to wherever you want it.

Regards,
Mandy

Re: Drain Pain and discomfort of catheter internally

Hi Guys, Haven't posted for a while, although I do check out the forum every so often. I've been feeling a bit sorry for myself really...... finally had a call for a transplant in February, after a wait of three years and seven months, only to be sent home. After that, I decided to tackle my consult...
