Re: Sunbed Use
This was discussed on the board very recently - see http://kidneypatientguide.org.uk/newBB/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6668&p=47605&hilit=sunbed#p47605 I really wouldn't use a sunbed - if you have a transplant in future the drugs you'll be on will make you far more likely to get skin cancer and ...

Re: 23 year anniversary
Thanks Jane. I've been well most of those 23 years, creatinine always below 100. Actually my last result wasn't so good, creatinine up to 114, could be a blip or I could have rocked the very stable boat by having a baby. I'm going back next week for repeat blood tests. My instructions after getting ...

Re: 23 year anniversary
I happened to read an article about this during the week, apparently the longest surviving kidney tx has been going for 45 years, and the longest in the UK 43 years. Making me a mere youngster. I agree with you in a way, Kipper, but I also think that the people who lost a child in an accident 23 yea...

Re: Life with immunosuppresion
Like the others I don't think about it much at all. I've never restricted my diet to exclude undercooked eggs or soft cheeses, because no-one told me to at the time of my transplant. By the time I heard this was advisable I was a couple of decades in and had never been ill from these things. I usual...

Re: How many different immune suppressants are there ?
Nerol? Do you mean Neoral, ie Ciclosporin?
You haven't mentioned Azathioprine, which I've taken for 23 years without apparent problems. Though I think it's considered old-fashioned now and like all of them has serious risks attached.

Re: Diet
I sympathise about the dietician but take care with your weight loss. In my experience it's hard to lose weight without pushing up your creatinine levels, however slowly and sensibly you do it. Which could lead to more unnecessary appointments when the docs see your blood results - that's what happe...

Re: Calcium Supplements
Why can't you take Calcichew at the same time as the rest of the meds? I always do, you've got me a bit worried now. I don't have a real problem with them now but I did while I was pregnant - had to take them in the evenings when I was less nauseous and even then I used to gag! Not sure what to sugg...

23 year anniversary
It was the 23rd anniversary of my transplant a few days ago. I actually forgot all about it, my very tiny but very gorgeous boy keeps me pretty busy these days.
Amazing, huh? But by no means a world record, even on this forum.

Re: An important message for all UK kidney transplant patien
This is really timely for me, I've just been given generic ciclosporin by a pharmacy. First time I ever remember it happening. I came on here to ask advice!
I'll need to take it back I guess, not sure how receptive they'll be though as the GP hasn't prescribed by brand.

Hi Louise, just wanted to say that I'm glad the new consultants were a bit more positive about the pregnancy. Very best of luck and hope your results go down.

Hi Louise I'm not sure anything I can say will be helpful but I'm very sorry you find yourself faced with such a difficult - impossible - decision. As a Tx patient I knowingly took risks with my own health and that of the baby by getting pregnant. My little boy is now at home and fine so far as anyo...

Hi, very sorry to hear everything your daughter's gone through. Are you in the very best place to get care? Ie a paediatric nephrologist at a big teaching hospital? I'm asking because when I was a child the local paediatrician messed around for years, giving harmful treatment such as steroids for my...

Sorry Shortie, I've drifted off-topic. I didn't know about Renal Patient View - fantastic system. Currently at the Royal Free I at least get a copy of the letter a few weeks after each clinic appointment telling me the results. For many of the years I was at the Royal London I never even got that - ...

I've had the jab this year and noticed absolutely nothing, not even a sore arm. The only time I noticed a bad effect was last year after the swine flu jab, worst sore arm I've ever had after a vaccination including exotic ones for foreign travel. This year's jab includes swine flu I think so maybe p...
