Re: My MUM talking about stopping dialysis
What is at issue here is not how much dialysis she is doing, but more about how much fluid they are removing per treatment. It is not the treatment length that causes someone to feel unwell, because the more dialysis the better (think of better toxin removal), but how much fluid is removed and how q...

Re: Has anyone refused dialysis
how am I attacking you, Gray? I am not being abusive, name-calling or anything, I do know what is in keeping with this forum. Sometimes people are just externalizing what they are thinking. I am simply stating that you are wrong in telling another human being how to deal with a life-changing decisio...

Re: Has anyone refused dialysis
grey, I understood completely what you said, and your clarification as not helped at all. I greatly admire those disfigured servicemen and women who pick up the pieces of their lives and carry on (and I am sure that there are a fair number who don't). However, I still cannot understand the reference...

Re: Has anyone refused dialysis
I appreciate that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I found Grey's reference to disfigured soldiers as pretty offensive and it was not directed at me. Lizbee merely stated her view as it related to her, and was not trying to push her view on anyone else, which is what Grey seemed to be doin...

Re: Noisy Machine
Some machines are quieter than others. I had mine switched out on a number of occasions for being more noisy than normal.

I never noticed any difference, but Of course, when you are on high doses in the early stages, then it is reasonable to take precautions to prevent exposure to infection, e.g. avoiding large crowded areas, etc.

Re: mini dialysis machine and wearable artificial kidney?
Has your uncle considered home dialysis, either peritoneal, or home haemo- dialysis? Google NxStage for a portable haemo- dialysis machine. It is available in the UK although I have no knowledge about how readily available it is., i,e. which dialysis clinics support it. Suggest you get your uncle to...

Re: mini dialysis machine and wearable artificial kidney?
There is currently no mini dialysis machine. Both the wearanle and implantable kidneys are still just prototypes. At the moment, the developers are still seeking funding to develop these. Even uf their development continues, they are still several years away.

Re: APD machines now free on Easyjet
MandyV, I am still doing well on home hemo, and Duh, the thread was about APD machines, not NxStage. My APD machine always went in the cabin with me. After it tested positive for explosives once when it was swabbed, I always wiped it down with bleach. I think that it is betadine that gives rise to a...

Re: APD machines now free on Easyjet
MandyV, a hard sided case is necessary. The NxStage machine takes up a lot of room and I think that it may be difficult to insist that it is in the cabin. Furthermore, if it went in the hold in a soft-sided case, there would, I think, be a liability issue for the patient if it were to get damaged. T...
