Re: Flu Jab
See here: http://www.kidneypatientguide.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7998 I can only repeat what i said there. When people get a cold they call it flu, when they have flu they feel like they are dying. Having not been vaccinated for a few years in the 1980's and had real flu a couple of time...

Re: Regrets
Telma, that must be dreadful for you. Certainly when i had "40 day fever" i.e. cytomegalovirus, post transplant, l felt, and was, so ill that my Dad was worried that i would die. That was the worst of my post transplant time. And like everyone, i get side effects from the drugs and have to...

Re: Flu Jab
Did anyone get it done at their clinic. My GP is totally useless. This may be just random advice and probably more suitable for a new thread, but remember, here in the UK there are about 28,000 transplantees and about 43,000 GP's (i think those numbers are correct, but don't shoot me if they are a ...

Bad luck, it is surprisingly unpleasant.

Re: Tieing of fistula after transplant.
Carol,
Mine carried on for about 18 to 20 years and basically the lumps got smaller.
It stopped totally when i went into hospital for an operation and the anesthetist probably let me blood pressure get too low.
Why go through an unnecessary operation?

Re: Flu Jab
I ALWAYS have a flu jab since a caught a really bad dose of the flu in the late 80's.
Once you've had real flu, you will never turn down the jab again.
Flu can be a very serious infection for immunocompromised people.

Re: Local support groups ?
Chris, we're you in Triathlon Plus Magazine, the guy from Kingston Wheelers? I remember reading your article. Yep, correct, that was me. A one off though. I find swimming boring and the running hurts various bones as i haven't done it for 27 years. But a bit of publicity does no harm. I still cycle...

Re: Local support groups ?
I'm genuinely not trying to offend anyone here, but, personally, i am not really keen on support groups. From my experience it tends to turn people into "professional patients" i.e. they define themselves by their medical condition. My transplant has given me the opportunity to live a full...

Short and sharp, all part of life's rich tapestry, and who cares when i've been so lucky to have such a long lived kidney!Thelma wrote:Ouch Chris that sounds horrendous!
I hope that, despite irritations like chicken pox, yours lasts as long and as healthily.

Re: Chicken Pox
Yes it must be worse with a penis *shudder*. Thelma, you're not wrong there! Because i was young (21 years old) and reasonably healthy quite quickly post transplant, the Senior Nurse asked if i wouldn't mind if a Trainee Nurse took mine out as she hadn't done one before and needed to learn. Of cour...

Amanda, I'm a male Chris, and 53 years old but act way way younger than that! My teenage kids really laugh at my tears.. And yea, i have heard of those who have been weaned off totally, but as you say, after 31 years i'm kind of reluctant to risk it. Hope your's goes well and would be fascinated to ...

Steroids and Emotions
I've been on post transplant prednisolone for 31 years now. Over the last few years, 10 or so, i've noticed, as has my family, that i get very weepy and emotional for the very slightest thing. During the Olympics, which i thought were brilliant, i was an absolute wreck! Continual, almost uncontrolla...
