Re: Tips to reduce hypotension, please?

Hi, Yes, you could try mentioning it to the staff. Fluid removal - The consultant usually makes an intelligent guess at a patients, 'Dry weight' (weight with no retained fluid). Patients are weighed before dialysis (Wet weight) the Dry weight is subtracted from the wet weight, this figure is the ret...

Re: Fistula removal.

I would expect about the same time as creating the fistula unless there are complications.

Also similar procedure, and time for recovery.

Re: Tips to reduce hypotension, please?

Hi, How is Mum getting on now? If she is still having problems, try asking her GP for anti sick medication. A long while ago, before I was diagnosed with Meniere's disease, at times I got vertigo just standing up, I prescribed an anti sick pill to tucked under my upper lip when required, it was very...

Hi Thumps,
Lets hope you don't have any reaction, you must be one of the very few that react to vaccines.

Re: Tips to reduce hypotension, please?

Hi Poppy, I have seen this in other patients for the first few sessions but as their bodies adjusted to Dialysis the symptoms subsided. Dialysis removes waste material out of the blood, and (if needed) removes excess fluid, with healthy kidneys this goes on all the time but on dialysis it is removed...

Re: should i go to hospital with GFR 22

Hi deemaxxx. Thumps has offered you good advice, I would add, try to eliminate added salt from your diet, (to help to reduce blood pressure) and shift to the so called, "Five - a - day diet". Basically this is aiming at eating five portions of fruit or vegetables each day. If you are not g...

Re: Waiting for more tests

Hi,
You need more test to find out what is wrong, there are many reasons for a temporary reduction in kidney function, some are curable, without more tests there will be no way of knowing.

Re: Routine blood test showed GFR of 55

Hi EnOu1209, GFR is usually eGFR (e stands for estimated), and is well known for being inaccurate but an eGFR is OK, it may become a problem if you became pregnant. With eGFR, it is best to look at trends in several blood tests rather than acting on a single reading. It is possible for the blood res...

Re: Dialysis?

Hi, There are other reasons why oxygen may be low, you should be getting regular blood tests anyway, these will eventually be monthly as your condition progresses. If you begin to feel more tired you can just ask your GP for a blood test. So, in short I would not bother to by an Oxymeter for that re...

Re: Dialysis?

Hi, Poor circulation in your legs is a function of ageing, however quickly running out of energy is a symptom of CKD, it's severity varies from patient to patient. The only thing I have been able to do, is to try to keep going, it is easier if there is a reason for the activity, Eg. looking at my la...

Re: Dialysis?

Hi, Low blood count does certainly make you lack energy, as explained above your kidneys may not be producing EPO. Low iron results in a low blood count, though iron without EPO is useless. Yes, a Fistula is formed by joining an artery to a vein in your lower arm, this is required for Haemodialysis....
