Re: immunsupressed and cancer

Hi Jane, NZ is going awesome. Love being in Christchurch, the people here are some of the toughest most resilent I have ever come accross. There is so much demolition going on, over 60% of the buildings in the CBD are being demolished. Even I have noticed a big difference in the time that I have bee...

Re: kaltostat dressings

Hi Suz,

I have used kaltostat on many patients' dressings.
It is a very good absorbant, and can aide reduce the amount of bleeding/ exudate from a wound.

I have mainly used in a ribbon and packed it into a wound.

Re: immunsupressed and cancer

When I was in the UK, I had a smear test every year from age of 21 (I lived in Wales, so that was the age in Wales for all females). Now in NZ they have also suggested that I remain to have a smear test each year. I would definately recommend getting the smear test done yearly- if your GP won't do i...

Re: encapsulated peritoneal sclerosis

Jooms, I have just had a read of your webpage, I was shocked to read what your wife and yourself went through. I have to be honest I don't even know what encapsulated peritoneal sclerosis is, and had to google it to read about it. Many of the things filled me with horror, over simple things not bein...

Re: New Zealand

I went to kidney clinic yesterday and I have total faith in the Christchurch Nephrology team. The Dr I spoke to was great, I had the most thorough examination that I can ever remember having. We discussed a number of things including, my ridiculosuly/dangerously high blood pressure- he has started m...

Re: New Zealand

Hi LL, That is great that you are in the process of trying to emigrate. I spoke to a couple the other week who were both Brits, whose parents were in the process of emigrating too, but it had been a long slog- and they were spending 6 months in Nz then 6 months in Aus until their visa was approved. ...

Re: Tattoo

I was told that you can't have a tattoo post transplant due to the increased risks of infection, however i know a couple of people who have had a tattoo post transplant. I don't see why there would be a major issue pre transplant, maybe ask your renal nurse what they suggest. I guess it would be wor...

Re: New Zealand

Hey guys, Just thought I would update you all on my emigrating to New Zealand. The process of the visa was a long one, I had to have a medical exam (as do all people wanting to emigrate here), had to get clarity from my renal unit ( which was a bit like getting blood out of a stone)- in the end I we...
