Re: 18 months post transplant
What a story Marie, I vaguely remember you wrote about it, but, I have tacro memory, I forgot most of the details. A former work colleague and friend had a transplant around the same time as you I think (his was in april last year). He had a bad allergic reaction to some of the medication and has re...

Yes, the 150/95 is at home. However, I have a Omron machine (this one: http://www.omron-healthcare.co.uk/our-products/blood-pressure-monitoring/m6-comfort) and I'm not sure how accurate it is. Whenever I have my BP done by a human being it's always lower than the machine. I don't find clinic stress...

Great result Tibbs. I don't know if you check you BP when not in clinic? Mine is usually high in clinic too, 140/90 average but at home and at various times during the day it never/rarely goes over 125/80, usually is even lower. I'm due for a visit next week, hope I can be out by 0930 but not holdin...

Re: What Are The Benefits Of A Pre-Emptive Transplant?
Others will be able to give more scientific answers. But I know some facts, e.g. preemptive transplants have a higher success rate. Also dialysis is damaging in various ways. Your whole system's under a lot of stress, your biochemistry is totally abnormal, you need operations for access/PD, there a...

Re: How to stop the paranoia?
I don't think you ever stop worrying if you have a lifelong condition, it's not in our nature. All we can do is try to find the right balance of worry and acceptance. It's taken me a long time, years even, to get to a place of relative calm. I have always just "known" everything will be OK...

Opie That was quite a steep decline, no wonder you are scared. Most of us here can relate to your fears and concerns but try and remember that your experience might be completely different to how it was for your mum. I watched my own mum's decline, she started dialysis about 8 years ago. Naively, I ...

Also post transplant how deep is your scar? And how long roughly after your transplant can you do such simple things as walking a few steps, as I've heard it's almost impossible to do such a thing even a couple of days after due to the stomach muscles having been cut, and also such simple things as...

There is a slight chance that, once you get more into running your BP will come down on its own a bit so they might be able to reduce the dosage. Or, just by exercising it will give you more energy. I have felt both when I exercise more regularly. As for the tingling, I get that too occasionally but...

Re: plantar fasciitis
Hi Amanda, there are so many different ways of dealing with it. The first time I had it 4 years ago I did get to see a top foot specialist (privately) and he suggested, as there as nothing else really wrong with my feet, to try off the shelf ones first and if that doesn't work then he'll make a cust...

Re: Tacro levels post tx
I'm on tacro only, 2mg am & pm, levels steady around 5-7. As I understand it, there a many factors that will determine what your levels should be. One of them is how well your body metabolizes the tacro. At my 1 year anniversary I did write a short thank you letter/card for the donor's family an...

Had mine 2 weeks ago, no reaction at all unlike the last couple of years when my arm hurt for several days. My surgery still does a Walk in morning on 2 saturdays by invitation only though, you are in and out in 1 minute flat! If you miss those then you can make an appointment.

Re: Help!
Thelma, Does your renal centre have something like an A&E for renal patients only? At Hammersmith we have a Rapid assessment unit that we can call during office hours, very helpful. Otherwise, I would be inclined to consider A&E proper. I only say this because some of those symptoms are simi...

Blimey! Too close for comfort.
Good to hear you are doing well though, even going to work sounds good. Hope things start to look up finally so you can put all this behind.
