Re: Low potassium diet
I can see why I have not been given resonium. I have high levels of paratyroid hormone also it sounds like a rather unpleasant regime. Thanks wagolynn. If potassium comes out in our poo it's a wonder I don't have low levels because I constantly have loose stools :( Unfortunately I cannot drink a lot...

Re: Low potassium diet
Per156 My neph has only today prescribed a "stronger diasalate" please excuse spelling. Apparently i have always been on a very week one. Is that what you mean. Never heard of the second thing, I will do some research. Is it usual for renal dieticians not to give diet plans or is it just m...

Low potassium diet
I need some help to try and get my potassium level down which keeps edging into the dangerous zone. I have tried getting help from our so-called renal dietician but after 2 months all she came up with was a list of high potassium foods which I had Googled myself ages ago. I have now been told that t...

Re: New Dialysis Machine
Wow its amazing. Personally I think stem cell technology is wonderful although I appreciate that a lot of people have different views. Combine that with 3d printers, it's science fiction come true. I think it's a lot closer than for our children. The only thing stopping us from benefiting is the usu...

Re: chrisb's journey
Here I am yet another month and another iron infusion later and my HB is still only 9.7 after taking another dip :( . I have got an appointment with transplant peeps tomorrow but I told my consultant that I did not want to go yet as I am 5kl over my cut off weight and it is creeping up because I do ...

I'm still keeping up with you Sporti, I have to fess up that it's partly because of your NYC connection. Makes CKD sound more cosmopolitan. I know, I'm sad But hey ho

Re: Hi again Sometime since I logged in
I know exactly what you mean about family support, or the lack of it. My partner walked out on me not wanting to deal with 'an invalid". The lasr contact i got from my famil. Was a nasty, mocking and irate telephone call and subsequent letter from my sister (2 years ago). I will be generous and...

Re: FluI'd restriction and holidays
I managed pretty well on holiday. Took my one litre bottle and measuring jug with me and sneekily measured the. cup and glasses used in the dining room on the first day and wrote it down, deducting each drink from my one litre bottle. I had to. choose whether I wanted a large drink in the daytime or...

Re: Benefits
I am also on dialysis but was told that I did not qualify for the disability allowance although I do get ESA which I would have been unhappy about if I hadn't after 42 years nonstop working and paying in. I could be wrong about this but I believe Benefits stop after a successful transplant and so do...

Re: Frequency and duration of Dialysis
I am on HD which I find is great for me. Unlike the previous contributor I do not feel at all exhausted and as I write this I am enjoying a week at the seaside without the worry of supplies and getting g rid of rubbish afterwards. I have my days to do. Whatever I want then just turn up at the local ...

Re: chrisb's journey
Here I am one month later when my consultant said I would be back to my pre-crash HB level of 12 and I am only at 9. On the plus side I am beginning to feel stronger but I had hoped for a bit more improvement before my holiday in 11 days time

Re: FluI'd restriction and holidays
Yes, I have done that at home, although I find it easier to start the day with a full 1 litre bottle of water which I use to measure each drink as I have it and I can see exactly how much I have got left. Being at home therefore is not a problem. I am discovering that no-one in restaurants, cafes et...

FluI'd restriction and holidays
I have recently started to be restricted to 1 litre of fluid per day which I have found reasonably easy to monitor at home but I am soon to stay a week in a hotel and wonder if anyone has any tips on how to keep a check on the amount consumed each day without having to carry a measuring jug around w...
