with apologies for my ignorance, what is NxStage machine (apart from the obvious - the nex stage) what is different about it?

i am waiting to have an angiagram. my level is currently 14 and i have been given some tablets (acetycysteine ) to protect my kidneys, two on the day before the test and two on the day of the test. i have been on attenanol since is was 19 (55 now) i wonder if this is my problem.
