welcome

welcome bb. I dont know how easy it is to get around on HD but have you looked into the option of PD? I find it very flexible. If you need to be on the move a lot you might find it is suitable. Suggest you discuss it with your consultant. My mother had a transplant 27 yrs ago and I too knew that one...

blood group and tx

Hal was right B is not the best blood group to have. My consultant told me the good news was that I was on the tx list but the bad news was that I was blood group B. There is a smaller proportion of the population which is B and there is a higher proportion of those waiting who are B.

diet

I was told pear juice is very good at making you go! Trouble is I didnt find it in my local supermarket. Maybe a pear a day like someone suggested apples. Also prune juice (but not the dried prunes becos of phosphate). Also the "emergency tin of baked beans". I used to have fried egg, gril...

decisions

Hi Jen Jen. I have been on the tx list for 2 years now and still waiting and I think the truth is that unless any of us is very lucky we have to wait quite a long time. In West London the average waiting time is 3.5 years. My blood group is B which means I will have to wait longer becos there is a s...

Thanks everyone for your advice. I sent an email to one of my niece's doctors which has been passed to the transplant team. My sister has spoken to the Headmistress who will be sorting things out. Thanks for your support. Helen

Yes Fred when I started CAPD I decided to drink as I felt like it and see what happened. I am still passing urine so everything is ok. Occasionaly, I have felt a little bloated as if I have drunk too much liquid and then I cut back. But monitoring the bp, weighing myself and recording how much ultra...

Alevel student told she is making her illness an excuse!

What advice would you give to an 18 year old girl who is studying for A levels and had a transplant last year? The teacher in charge of the 6th form told her she was making her illness an excuse! She may have had a transplant but she does not feel well much of the time. I know her medical team is do...

CAPD

When the time came for me there was no contest. I opted for CAPD becos it could best fit into my lifestyle and I wanted to keep on working. As my work day was long the APD wouldnt have given me enough time off between leaving work and hooking up to the APD. Also CAPD was more flexible for going away...

Could we be related?

I am trying to trace anyone else with kidney disease who is related to me. John Huggett , sailor, b1798 in Dover and Sarah Bishop b1800 in Birchington, Kent married in Birchington in 1818. They lived in Broadstairs and had at least 12 children survive into adulthood. We know a son, my gg grandfather...
