gfr9 help

Remember that it is up to your grandfather to decide if he wants the doctors to talk to you and how much he wants you to know. It is called patient confidentiality.

what is wrong with me?

hello from another Helen sounds like you need to get the underlying health issue looked at. The thing is being low in iron or needing epo means that you may well feel not as fit as some other transplantees. If you get tearful then it sounds as if all is not well. Can you call up the renal tx clinic ...

trying to conceive

Thanks Nicola I think the decision we made was not so very hard. We took lots of factors into consideration. It has been the right decision. It's living with the decision which has been hard because being right doesn't take away the feeling of wanting to have children and the sadness that leaves. Am...

incentives for organ donation

I have said it before and I'll say it again. I think we should look at all the possible options to increase organ & tissue donation. While some talk of the slippery slope I am afraid that collectively society is leaving people to die who could otherwise have a chance of living life if we could f...

Ok I am not trying to conceive but I understand about wanting children & not having them. The other day I went to a transplant seminar to talk to patients about what it's like to go through the op and one of the live donors had brought her very new baby along. And I was astonished to be told, wh...

grapefruit

Jooms I am very sorry to hear that your wife was eating grapefruit after her operation. But possibly at that time there was not a reason to suppose that transplant patients should not eat grapefruit. I dont know about the effects on your wife's anti rejection medicine but I do know that for me takin...

amazingly still pregnant

I am sorry Amanda. Is the consultant a nephrologist or obs & gynae? 20 years ago I was told that if I became pregnant then I could expect to be monitored very carefully so I suppose in your position I'd expect that - monitoring - rather than gloomy prognosis each time I showed up. Hang in there....

botched kidney transplant

Hi Lincoln

I know of a couple of people who are on kpg who might be able to help you so hopefully they'll reply. And they might very well send you a pm and not post in public.

pregnancy

Dear Amanda What I say may also be a cause of unnecessary worry but it is also a lesson which sheds light on what can happen when special attention is not paid to someone who is known to suffer from (even a minor) renal impairment and has a family history which is relevant. A young woman was under t...

remembering 11th April 2007 when Stephen Farrow so generously gave me the precious & priceless gift of life. Can't thank him, Prof Nadey Hakim & the renal transplant team enough. Three years and counting. The best is yet to come.

politicians

There'll be a lot of young candidates fighting this election who feel that they can make a difference. They won't all win their seats and many will keep trying elsewhere until they do. The wind of change is blowing through parliament sweeping out the old & bringing in the new. This one is worth ...
