Re: Gfr gone up to 22 confused.com

I hope this is not nit picking but the statement, “I admit I did not know that once you start dialysis you cannot come off it ”, is misleading. There are instances where dialysis is a temporary measure until the kidneys recover sufficiently to work on their own. It is true that kidney failure tends ...

This may help you to understand your suspected condition. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001526/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimal_change_disease (Google any of the words you do not understand) With anything you find on the internet do not take anything at face value, check the vali...

Re: Gfr gone up to 22 confused.com

This is a question for your nephrologists, without all the information about your case no one can really comment.
Good luck anyway.

Re: Low blood pressure on dialysis

Apart from the dogs, poor sleeping is part of the condition, I make an effort not to sleep in the day in the hopes I will sleep better at night. I was having a problem sleeping after a dialysis sessions (I am on the twilight shift) and was disturbing my wife. The consultant prescribed a low dose of ...

Re: Low blood pressure on dialysis

Ramipril– relaxes the blood vessels and therefore lowers blood pressure, I think this would be prescribed as part of the treatment for your kidneys (in general getting blood pressure down is good for kidneys). As I understand it, it is usual to adjust the dose after dialysis is established after giv...

Re: Low blood pressure on dialysis

I should have asked, are you on medication to reduce your blood pressure?
In most cases this can be reduced once the patient is established on dialysis; do not reduce your medication without consulting your nephrologists.

Re: Low blood pressure on dialysis

I have been on Hemodialysis, with no water taken off, for some time now, my blood pressure tends to fall throughout the session. Occasionally I get the urge to sleep but nothing as dramatic as your episode. I have not yet found a plausible explanation; the nursing staff just says it only happens whe...

Re: Sodium bicarb

I would advise you to contact your prescribing doctor as soon as possible. Stopping prescribed drugs is not a good idea; it is possible that a mistake has been made in making-up or prescribing.

Re: Can you suvive on dialysis indefinately

When you have complete kidney failure can you suvive on dialysis alone or would this mean dialysis 24 hours a day? Also can you suvive using dialysis indefinately or eventually does you body just give up? A very sensible and pertinent question, I go along with the view, questions are never a waste ...

Hello jbell,
I think in your position I would contact the RNIB, they may have had experience of similar problems and any grants available.

Re: question @ DIET

Here's another for the chefs. And chefettes on here. Ignore Jman, he's a picky bugger. How DO you do a pasta sauce, when all the shop bought ones are tomato, mushroom or cheese based?? Ideas on a postcard please.... Tinned tomatoes are ok; just throw the liquid away this works because the potassium...

Re: Anybody on or has been on CAPD ?

The CAPD routine is flexible, once you are established it is likely (or you could ask after say 3 months) they will/should/may offer a machine to automatically do the changes while you sleep!

Re: Update

ScrapheapHuman/Wagolynn - I am interested in what you have to say re the diet? Scrapheap, you say that you have received advice from a dietician? I too am at Guys hospital but, when I asked my consultant what I can do (diet wise) to preserve the life of my kidneys, he basically said "apart fro...
