Taking its toll

Seems dialysis is starting to take its toll more and more. After dialysis anxiety and indecision kick in, especially if I have to go anywhere after treatment, which I avoid most days. And even more of a problem if I'm on my own. A session day without a 2 hour kip means a few days to recover. Next da...

Re: Dialysis?

I had my second IV iron three weeks ago, rather later than the 6 monthly they suggested and probably only then because I asked for it - suggesting my energy level was low and the monthly Aranesp 80 were not really helping. This time they did the IV a little slower the result in energy was less imme...

Re: Water Softener

You'd need to put the water through an RO & filtration as well to get pure water. A water softener Reject water from a dialysis system is perfectly safe for drinking and irrigation. Maybe not feasible on a domestic scale, but in hospitals it makes sense. This is one reason why most heamodialysis...

Pfizer 2

Second Pfizer jab yesterday. Def affecting energy and mental health. I'm missing my other special 'non kidney friends', hating the garden, which usually gives me some pleasure, and generally feeling low. Don't you just love this fecking covid thing. Other news, the RSM webinars on Climate & Healt...

Re: CKD - a book you found helpful?

I'm 74 with high blood pressure, which is controlled with medication. Last year, my eGFR was 80, last week it was 58. So, I'm having further blood tests, urine test and, possibly, a scan as I have kidney stones. I understand that if CKD is confirmed, it will be my GP who will monitor me. As I under...

Dialysis in Holland?

Has anyone dialysed in the Netherlands or on German Dutch border?

It's been a long time since I've been back to my mums home country, and its something I'd like to do. Hell, with England as it is, I'd consider emigrating if I could! LOL

Re: Scared

Hi @megs There's some excellent support on here, and from the main patient charities https://www.kidneycareuk.org/get-support/ https://www.kidney.org.uk You can try and manage your BP with diet (salt is a real factor) and general health. I know with diabetes its tricky, but it will make it better if...

Re: Vaccines for Covid 19

Some units are doing them 'in unit' (friends have had them) Friend. Non renal has had one and had flu like symptoms and a sore arm for a couple of days. Probably something to do with Trust decisions more than anything. Thats the issue with semi privatisation. Worth looking at the Webinars/NKF/KCUK a...

Re: Coronavirus

Got both the Gov and LA letter a few days ago. I live in a high peak area but low case 'ward'. Still scary. It suggests registering again https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus-shielding-support To be honest the 'local help' phonically were OK, my partner who has MS got nothing, and the food parcels were en...
