Re: Blood creatinine over 1000, how do folks feel?

It is certainly possible to have creatinine of over 1000, mine sat at c1200 for the last couple of years before tx - it is very individual just how well you tolerate that level. For me I have a problem with clotting so HD was problematic and I was only able to stay on PD because I could tolerate tha...

Re: Some interesting/useful links (imo)

At the risk of stating the obvious I am not sure anyone said or suggested that the NHS was free - I specifically said it was 'free at the point of delivery' which is both factually correct and not the same as free. Also Wales is adopting a soft opt out process whereby if the family object donation w...

Re: Some interesting/useful links (imo)

Tibbs - Spain doesn't really have opt- out as there is no register of peoples wishes and yes a huge push is societal but also due to quite proactive practices in practice. Andy has previously mentioned a film which made a huge difference and so forth. I also doubt any assessor would really claim to ...

Re: Some interesting/useful links (imo)

aah Grey lots of interesting points and just a few comments .... Firstly we have a national health service that, though it may have its faults is both free at the point of delivery and also allocates based on medical need (distributive justice being a key commitment in our ethical framework). To be ...

Re: Post transplant pregnancy

Hi Andy - yes, it is quite common at my unit; I have just been on (low dose) tac since my tx nearly 7 years ago with things being stable since. I was only on pred for a week.

Re: Veins borderline for fistula

Again this is something that varies by unit - at WLRTC they are quite happy to use necklines for long term but also they have a transplant surgeon who started as a vascular surgeon and who enjoys that work so will reverse redundant fistula(e)? which are too large and causing problems - i.e. I heard ...

Re: Hi Update from jbell

Dotty - blood in the fluid *could* be from the exercise involved in your job! especially if bending and lifting! especially if you are not used to it since you started PD. I used to get 'rose' (as in the wine) bags after a bit if exercise. Nothing to sorry about if light and if you have clear ones i...

Re: CAPD and working

Take a hot water bottle with you and wrap the the bag and bottle in a towel for about 45 mins and that ahould do it. Even more effective if in an insulated container like a cooler bags. Test the heat before you use it as it is possible to get it too hot and that is not to be recommended. I used to t...

Re: PD PATIENT

Firstly it sounds like he is getting a lot of absorption overnight - speak to the nurses as they can give a different dialysate which is better for long dwells. Try different positions for the drains - sitting/lying. I used to find if I wanted to get a bit more out I would stand and act like I was h...

Re: Charity Walk

Sorry to hear that you had such a tough time and had to be pulled from the walk. I am told that the time on your feet is often more of the issue than the fitness and that it is not unusual for that to be the issue that causes people not to finish long walks. Still - I hope you are proud of what you ...

Re: Securing PD catheter?

My team showed me how to use another small dressing with two slits cut in it which you could loop the tube through, this meant that you could get away with only changing the tube loop one every couple of days as long as you kept it clean and dry.

Re: The Team Tibbs Results are in...

Each unit seems to give different advice - I have heard other units agreed showering was fine without a dressing. However our unit was clear that they required us to use tegaderm when getting wet. That may be on the conservative side but I would imagine that swimming - especially in public and bathi...

Re: Alcohol and Kidney disease

I now work for a very well known wine and spirit merchant and have just been stocking up for the guests staying this weekend. I was selecting a gin and asking our in house expert about it when he mentioned the 3 fruits our house one contains - I asked which ones and discovered that it has grapefruit...
