Re: suggestion... how about introducing ourselves??

Hi Marc Welcome. Hope you find something useful here. If not, start a new topic and ask. I lived and worked in London for years. I thought I could remember seeing a building somewhere called the Shaftesbury Hospital but couldn't remember where. Just looked it up: http://ezitis.myzen.co.uk/shaftesbur...

Re: Medullary Sponge Kidney..?

Hi Rory I just happened across this post and see that nobody ever replied. That doesn't mean you're in the wrong place at all, just that it seems to be a rare condition. I did a quick search, and Medullary Sponge Kidney has only been mentioned a couple times before: http://kidneypatientguide.org.uk/...

Re: Travel with a CVC

I see a CVC is what I know as a 'neck line'. Presumably, if on haemodialysis, she would need to sort out dialysis in Thailand (unless she has her own portable machine and supplies). The person who should really answer this is your mothers renal consultant/dialysis nurse. They would know whether she ...

Re: CAPD Bag Heaters

Like Mandy, I travelled a lot when on PD, and never had a dedicated heater. I would put bags on/near radiators, or other warm places, wrapped in a towel if it seemed too warm. Although I never did this, having a fresh hot water bottle wrapped up close with a PD bag would, I reckon, warm it up pretty...

Re: Good news if your zodiac sign is Pisces

Haha! That's very funny.

At least it would be if I didn't know that it's the kind of thing that the likes of the Daily Mail and Daily Express might publish, and significant(!) numbers of people are ignorant/gullible enough to think it's important.

Re: Moving to South West - Advice Please!

Hi Dixie I made the move from London (Guys) to the SW 6 years ago. I'm loving it here. I've had excellent care at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital - including a 2nd transplant in 2012 which took place at Bristol Southmead. That was all good - and the coordinators fantastic (especially at organi...

Re: CAPD Question

That's very true. It's also the case that there are lots of useful nuggets of knowledge for each kind of dialysis that aren't unique to a particular person. Searching this site (see box, top right) might lead you to some of them. Once accepting its inevitability I quite enjoyed the 'game' of PD, eg:...

Re: CAPD Question

I suppose it is technically possible for toxins to be reabsorbed from the fluid, though in all the time I was on APD and CAPD (I switched between the two as convenient, though mostly APD), I never came across this as something to be particularly worried about. Whether or not you are 'full' or 'empty...

Re: Stent Removal: different experiences

I can add to the list of men who've had a stent removed, once after each of two transplants, in different UK hospitals without suffering anything more than split-second feeling that made me go, “Ooh!” I know that everyone, and every situation is different, and things happen so I'm not seeking to dis...

Re: Do you do renal puncture after transplantation ?

In my experience, after two transplants in the UK, I've only had a renal biopsy (aka puncture check) when there was something wrong. From the units you're using to express creatinine level, I assume you not in the UK. A quick Google shows that in Sacramento, California, for example, it's a normal pr...

Re: rejection by his own fault

Hi Tara Something you said up there jumped out at me – about your partner being afraid of cancer – and "anti-rejection drugs can cause cancer". It's really important to know that the drugs don't CAUSE cancer, but they do reduce the body's immune system, like they're designed to, to stop re...

Re: Urgency to urinate

Hello Those symptoms are exactly what I was experiencing before taking myself to a GP and getting investigated. In my case, it was all part of getting close to having very low kidney function (I wasn't already being monitored). I'd recommend getting checked out as quickly as possible. If you don't h...

Dialysis patients wanted in London tonight (and Mon)

I've just had a call from a company who organises research meetings. This one is for a UK-based charity that I am very happy to support*. They're looking for anyone on dialysis, any form, who is willing to come to the Holiday Inn, Regents Park this evening (3 Sept) or Monday eve (7 Sept) to take par...

Re: Should I tell the kids now?

That's a tricky one. My very quick answer would be 'probably not yet', though there's loads of other stuff to add to that (some of which you might find by searching for relevant words in this forum). I'm 47, my mum was diagnosed in 1978, then on dialysis and transplanted in 1993, which was around th...
