Re: nephlogist refusing to test for micro-albumin

Unfortunately, only your doctor will really be able to answer any remaining questions you have about microalbuminia and its detection as none of can really know about your personal circumstances/results- If you're worried, you might want to ask your doctors about about follow-up tests in a few month...

Re: Feeling poorly 6 mths post tx....what action to take?

Hi Penny My advice is to go to ring your transplant unit and see what they say. Usually a doctor will call you back, you describe your symptoms and they will tell you what to do. None of us are doctors on here so we have no way of knowing whether you have a low-level virus like a cold or it is the b...

Re: SPAM and login issues

Also, you can ban their posts from appearing in the forum. If you go to their profile, you can add them as a "foe". This means their spam wont be visible to you if we they are left on the forum for a while

Re: SPAM and login issues

Sorry guys,

we are trying to delete things as fast as we can, but aren't on the forum all day. There is also only one administrator who can 'ban' people from posting, which obviously takes time

Post-Transplant EPO

Hi all, After 2 years of suffering post-tranpslant anaemia, countless investigations and a hefty dose of iron, my HB is still around 9.0 something. After an infection last month it dropped to 8.0 something and hasn't yet come back up. There is no reason why I should be anaemic: my dose of MMF has be...

Re: Malaria Prophylaxis

thumps- sorry, rushed & badly worded sentence. I took Doxy when I visited SE Asia, Malarone when I visited Kenya = these were two different trips :) Each area of the world has a different recommendation for the best anti-malarial to use. Some you don't need anti-malarials at all, like South Afri...

Re: Malaria Prophylaxis

hi thumps... VSO sounds well-exciting! Yes, anti-malarials are perfectly safe for tx patients and essential whether you are a transplant patient or not. I had Malarone when I moved to Kenya with work for 6 months (v. expensive!), and also Doxycycline (which is an antibiotic) when I visited SE Asia J

Re: Myfortic (Mycophenolate Mofetil)

hi thumps, i get this problem often and it is so unbelievably frustrating. I've posted about it here somewhere. The problem lies not with the chemist, but the relationship between the wholesalers that supply chemists and the manufacturers. Very often the manufacturers have restricted supply to the w...

Keith: About low phosphate levels: Phosphate Sandoz tablets are a common treatment for low phosphate - these are big tablets that dissolve in water. I'm not even sure you need a prescription. I was given them (dose: 3x a day) recently during a hospital stay for some random virus that left me feeling...

This in my opinion is waaaaay over the top and actually quite a frightening prospect. It promotes patient dependency, not agency & independence. It is so contradictory to the messages that are promoted about all forms of end-stage kidney treatment (dialysis & transplant): independence, self-...

thanks all for the replies! The consultant thinks maybe it's the MMF, but we've cut that down to the lowest we can go now and still no improvement. He'd rather me stay on that (and cut all the steroids) than increase Tacro dose further or switch me off them seen as I'm doing so well Anyway, glad it'...

Post-transplant anaemia

hi all, Long time no post! Hope you're all well I'm writing as I want to know if any people post-transplant suffer with anaemia? Despite 2.5 years of docs poking, prodding and experimenting with iron tabs and now iron infusions I am still anaemic (hb in the low 9's). It is a bit of a mystery as my t...

I am unbelievably excited about this! I remember a story 5 years or so ago where they had produced one of the glomeruli from some kind of nano-technology, so it is so good to see it has advanced! An artifical implantable kidney really is the dream... It can help so many people who can't have donor k...
