Re: RE: Transplants and yoghurt!

I also eat a lot of yoghurt... in summer I have it with my oats instead of making porridge.

The probiotic ones like Activia are a different story, though even the advice for those also seems to vary depending on where you look.

Re: Post transplant nightmares

I wake up in a panic every night. I think it probably happens in the first sleep cycle when I'm just dropping into deeper sleep. I wake up with a jolt, usually thinking that I haven't taken my drugs, or that I'm on holiday and haven't taken them for several days. Or that I haven't given my son his m...

Re: Emigrating away from the UK

My partner and I have had conversations about moving - at times it looked like he might be offered an overseas job with his firm, but so far it's never come to anything. Pre-brexit we didn't consider Europe a major problem for my healthcare, apart from possible language issues. Generally I've been a...

Re: Restless legs

It's my personal experience that both too much and too little exercise can trigger restless legs! Alcohol and caffeine bring mine on too. But with something as severe as you're describing those lifesyle things are probably only a minor contributor. You've probably already Googled, but this page list...

Re: Surprise yourself!

I tried surfing on a trip to Oz - hated it but it was water going up my nose that I didn't like, nothing to do with kidneys!

I can't see why it would threaten your transplant. Afaik only sports where it might get kicked or hit are a problem - rugby, martial arts.

Have a grear time.

Re: From a relative's perspective

Hi StephN Not much to add to the other replies, just to say that I'm sorry you're going through such a lot. It should be a happy and exciting time, first proper job etc, but there's a huge cloud over things. I know you want to support your mum, but take care of yourself and your new career too. Aman...

Re: EBV Virus

I had an initial infection of EBV within a year of transplant and at least two recurrences. It's never triggered post-transplant lymphoma. It's a risk rather than a certainty that anything bad will happen. Also, if you're googling, make sure you look at up to date resources. Even in the unlikely eve...

Re: Epstein Barr Virus

Unfortunately there are strong links between EBV and post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder. That's why they want to be sure your immune system is on top of it. Since my transplant I've had both initial infection with the virus and at least two recurrences, and no PTLD. The earlier times they ...

Re: Information to Prospective Live Donors

I assume you're father and donor of our Tibbs? Good to hear from you. I followed his long and very bumpy transplant journey on here, and was obviously delighted at the eventual positive outcome.

Re: I've been unwell for years can anyone help..

Have you looked into migraine? It can have many of the effects you mention, including fluid retention. You can have migraine both with and without the headache and in some people it's pretty much a chronic state. It would also explain why the doctors can't find anything - migraine is notorious for m...

Re: Bone Density.

I had one arranged by my neph, though it was my initiative to ask for it. The results weren't dreadful considering I'd been on steroids for 20-plus years.

I've since come off steroids due to changing units. The hope is that my bone density has improved since.

I'm sorry you're in this position. It's a great shame when people with real commitment to helping others are driven out by workload and stress - but it's happening all around us. Remember your kidney was a gift, for you. There's no need to pay anyone back. Your health and wellbeing really has to be ...

Re: Feeling a bit teary

Hi Strega Sorry you're feeling down. We've all been there. Becoming a renal patient is a major life change and a big shock. The good news is that life is still worth living, you will carry on enjoying many of the same things, especially your boys. Many people find the thought of dialysis worse than ...
