Re: Rubbish veins
I know this an old tread but I found this https://hellovein.com/how-does-a-vein-finder-work/ the kit can be found on Amazon. The other thought on this is Ultrasound scanners - most dialysis units have them or have access to one. The unit I started dialysis at, about 12 years ago, had one bought by t...

Hi Oldboy, Wow 3 blood transfusions! The more usual way, is transfusions and injections of EPO( EPO gives the bone marrow a kick up the backside telling it to produce more red cells) See https://www.southtees.nhs.uk/services/pathology/tests/erythropoietin-epo/ In my experience, transfusions are used...

Hi, Depending on the cause of your kidney reduction in performance - there can be temporary reduction which are curable or out right kidney failure which is not curable but can only be corrected by a transplant. If you have outright kidney failure, it will tend to get worse but this is not predictab...

Hi, It would appear your high BP is the major problem, are you doing all you can to improve this? Get salt /sodium down low - basically no extra salt on food, look out for pre prepared food as most have high salt content. Breakfast cereals have salt in, the only ones I have found without salt are Oa...

Hi WightPolly,
This forum is about kidneys, I don't recall anyone posting with lymphatic problems.
Have you tried searching the internet for Lymphodema forums?
Best wishes.

Re: Lymphodema anyone?
Hi, Have you looked at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/lymphoedema/treatment/ It would appear there isn't any medication to cure this condition. As I understand it, the Lymphatic system doe's not have a pump like the vascular system. Fluids are moved through the Lymphatic system by muscle movement whe...

Hi, An eGFR of 15 is bringing you in the range where my beginning to fell the effects of kidney failure. Each individual will start to notice the effect of low eGFR at different levels but I would think it is well worth mentioning to your GP or Consultant if you are seeing one. In my experience, the...

Re: "Patients Know Best"
Hi All, First I thing the name is a very poor choice - If you want to speak to your medical team, the conversation has to start with, "According to Patients Know Best my blood results are ...". Not a very good start, they will have their back up before you get to your question. Presentatio...

Hi,
Sorry, I should have said the, 'e' in eGFR means estimated, this is prone to error.
In practice the key thing is the trend in eGFR.
Most people will get down to less than 20% before noticing any problems but you will find all this among the topics from the home page.

Masks The unit I attend still use masks but masks on transport to dialysis has been relaxed. I think, the assumption is that vulnerable people have had their vaccine shots, which reduces the risk. You should have had a letter, some time ago, outlining special treatment should you find you have caugh...

Hi gaibleke, See your GP and tell him/her how you feel. Kidney failure pushes you towards depression but if you are aware of this it is possible to re-direct your thoughts, when the black cloud hits tell yourself it is a symptom of the kidney problems nothing more, and try not to dwell on the cloud....

Re: nephrotic syndrome
Hi dylanmace 75, Welcome to the forum, and I am sorry for the delay in responding. The Orthopnoea is likely to be a result of the Nephrotic syndrome, because your kidneys will not be clearing excess water from your body, hence the swelling. If fluids are building up, you may find sleeping with more ...

Re: How “back to normal” are you?
My daughter who is about 3 years into a transplant, still wears a mask in shops etc. We are in a care home now, and she does not come in as the care home is locked down due to Covid among residents. Both my wife and I have had Covid, (while in the care home) my wife was in hospital for about 10 days...
