Can the gym affect your eGFR?
Not sure if that's a silly question or not, but just wondering if someone did weights and circuit training, they are obviously going to create muscle, not entirely sure on the science bit, but I know it affects your creatinine, so if creatinine is a factor in calculating your eGFR and your eGFR drop...

Sickness bug...
This might sound like a really odd/stupid question, but is the sickness particularly bad for someone who has kidney disease? Stage 3b-4. The reason I ask is I am a childminder and it's my policy to exclude any child who has been sick, for up to 48 hours after the last bout of sickness (or diarrhea) ...

Re: What caused your kidney disease?
Hi ScrapheapHuman I have PKD. This is 'Polycystic Kidney Disease' - it means that the kidneys (and sometimes other organs, eg liver) are full of cysts, which as I understand it, gradually take over the kidneys preventing the 'tubules' - or is it the 'glomeruli' ? - from doing the filtering of the b...

Re: Living or existing with Kidney Failure
Emma, you should remember that what will be will be, as my old mother used to say, so worrying or not worrying will not change a thing. Well not so true, actually getting ourselves all worked up over something may even make it worse. So the best position is ....know all the facts that will then all...

Re: Living or existing with Kidney Failure
I have to say, this post scares me somewhat. Although I am the sort of person who needs to know what is ahead of me so I can 'prepare' Last year when my kidneys dipped I felt awful, I just knew something was not right and asked for a blood which confirmed my suspicions. Then after about 3 months, th...

What caused your kidney disease?
I am not very clued up on this and not overly sure how it all works or the correct terminology so if I get it wrong, I apologise LOL! I was diagnosed with... Reflux Nephropathy... I think that's what it's called - the tubes from my kidneys to my bladder were broken and didn't shut. I had an op when ...

Re: BP readings...
Hi ScrapheapHuman, This website should give you the lowdown on Irbesartan, you may have to search a bit but it is all there. http://www.drugs.com/dosage/irbesartan.html I assume you are doing all the standard things to lower your BP e.g. Eliminate salt from your diet, exercises, taking statins to k...

Re: BP readings...
Just did my BP this morning and it was 143/98 - I had reflux nephropathy, which I had operated on when I was 5 (Will be 30 in July) Everything with my kidneys were okay, but since having my two children I now have CKD stage 3b. My eGFR last year was 35, then it dipped to 25 for a while then went bac...

Re: BP readings...
Thank you, I have been logging my readings on RPV, and usually keep a copy of them on my phone.
I have noticed my urine is less foamy now, but the BP is still the same. My next appointment is 12th May.

BP readings...
What is an ideal BP range for someone with kidney disease? Also, what is considered higher than ideal and what would be considered getting too high? Last year my BP was about 115/70 while on Ramipril and Irbesartan. In Nov they stopped the Rampiril and I was on just 75mg Irbesartan 2x a day, my BP s...

Re: When does testing for a living donor start?
Can I ask why they wait so long. Could they not check potential donors just to if they are a match first of all, then do all the rest of the testing near the time? I have two possible donors and I know my Dad is a different blood group, but they have said that won't matter it is the tissue type. The...

Re: Some thing doesn't feel right :(
Argh!!!! Just logged on to RPV and all the tabs are working... EXCEPT my results tab, keep coming up with Error 404, how annoying! It says "You might have typed the web address wrong or this page has moved or deleted. Click here to return to the homepage or press the back button in your browser...

Re: Some thing doesn't feel right :(
My results suposedly go on RPV at midnight on the day they were taken but mostly appear the next day. If results are worse and you are concerned phone your renal unit or dr just in case it is not picked up quickly at renal unit. It should be but you just never know and also if results are not on RP...
