smoking

smoking as no bearing at my unit, or any unit I went to. My donor smokes like a chimney and it in no way ruled him out for anything. Of course it's advisable not to, but they don't count that against the recipient or the donor.

co-ordinators

There are co-ordinators and co-ordinators. :) I have been with many different hospitals, five so far. And every experience was different. The final one, rogosin institute was by the far the absolute best. i've never had such care in all my life. I decided to remain with my clinic and not return to m...

Bill

Bill, I am perhaps not quite your age, I am 36, but man your post hits points I can relate to. Yes, when I was in school there was maybe one "fat" kid, and he/she was still not overweight in the way in which people are overweight today. Portion control has gotten out of sight, as the impor...

Hi there, I would say that the way your daughter is feeling is completely normal. Also, everyone reacts to the meds differently. You didn't mention what meds she is currently on. Some of the meds can cause more lethargy and exhaustion than others. I am only on Cellcept (MMF) and Tacromilius, but sti...

Partners

This question seems to vary depending on doctors, nurses, and units. Within the same units I have found differing opinions on this. I personally, but what can you do if the unit most convenient to you doesn't allow it I don't know, do not like remaining under the care of places that don't allow visi...

Grapefruit

I love grapefruits, and have seemingly always been taking some medication that forbade it. I cannot have it after transplant either, with the immunusuppressant drugs it increases the amount in your bloodstream. I suppose an occasional one wouldn't kill me, say midday between meds, but the doctor tol...

Vent away

This is a great place to vent, chat and ask all the questions you may have. This place was my savior when after months of pred I was basically told (but internally knew) that I was not going to get better, and was going to need a transplant. I was 33 at the time. I am now transplanted, managed to si...

I won't

tell you to cheer up, because you are entitled to those moments of breaking down and tears. And I totally get that feeling of others just having NO idea how freaking tired you are! For a good two years, because the hallmark of my kidney problems was lost of protein in the urine, about 15=20 grams a ...

MCD

Okay, I am of the belief, that MCD that is steroid-resistent doesn't necessarily remaiin MCD. I too had MCD, supposedly, and was steroid-resistent, with nephrotic syndrome, foamy urine, losing a lot of protein in the urine, swelling, exhaustion. About eight years of that. And upon a second biopsy th...

I just wanted to say, first, I am so glad you are home. At least I think you are now, no? Second, I wish I could answer your question, and wish I'd seen this before I'd gone for my clinic visit just this past Friday. I think the resilience of each individual cannot be estimated. And the way in which...

I must say, I think of you hourly, by the day. I too, like Elaine, have mixed emotions reading your post. But not because I don't feel you are doing what you feel is best, but because it's sad. I simply wish for you to be comfortable, and it is truly wonderful how many people are coming to visit you...
