Re: transplant call

Mine was 1 or 2am - my mother took it. But I remember her waking me and the night drive to the hospital through the snow. It was suitably dramatic.

Re: VitvD deficiency Bone and tendon pain and muscle weaknes

Glad to hear it! I had a similar experience of really severe pains in my feet that disappeared within a short time of starting Vit D.

Re: How to cope with a life limiting condition.

Hi Epgibbons I just wanted to say that I'm sorry you've had such a difficult time. But you are still here, against the odds! I have one young son and I worry so much that I won't see him through to adulthood because of my illness and all the possible complications and side-effects. I wonder if you c...

Re: Post-kidney transplant fertility & pregnancy

Hi, I'd suggest discussing it with your transplant team first of all and then, if possible, with an obstetrician specialising in kidney patients. And take hubby along as you both need to hear the advice. Getting pregnant with a transplant has risks, but many women have done it without ending up back...

Re: Post-kidney transplant fertility & pregnancy

Hi Louise Many congratulations on your pregnancy. I think more of us transplant women end up having c-sections, because we're higher risk and so closely monitored. Also it's common to end up delivering early. But I know it's possible to give birth naturally. You'll need to discuss it with the obstet...

Re: Mortgage

Sorry to hear that, Johny. Health is not asked about directly in applying for a mortgage. You might be asked to disclose any looming changes that will affect your ability to keep up the payments. But your transplant should improve your health, not worsen it, so I don't see why you'd need to disclose...

Re: Stage 4 CKD

I'm sorry, that sounds a difficult situation with your daughter. With the exhaustion, I can only suggest you keep asking. There are various reasons why kidney patients get tired, and I'm sure diabetes makes it worse. Keep stressing how bad it is and ask for all alleviation. Eg is she anaemic? Has sh...

Re: Post-kidney transplant fertility & pregnancy

I was on the old triple therapy - ciclosporin, azathioprine, prednisolone. That was the standard treatment in the 80s and I've never been swapped to newer meds. I didn't have to change immunosuppression to try for a baby but did have to change my BP med. Since then I've come off the steroid so now o...

Re: Post-kidney transplant fertility & pregnancy

Hi KP After pregnancy my kidney did seem to deteriorate from totally amazing to merely very good... I previously had steady creatinine of 92, exactly the same result every blood test, no matter what I did. I'd already had the kidney 22 years when I got pregnant. Since giving birth my creatinine fluc...

Re: Working Overseas Post TX

I've never worked overseas but have travelled for extended periods. I had a bit of hassle getting 5 months of meds in stock when I went to Australia. Otherwise I had no issues. In retrospect I should have taken more care with my meds when backpacking in high temperatures. But travelling for work tha...

Re: Medical exemption certificate

Transplant patients aren't generally exempt, so you're doing quite well, Richard.

I pay about £10 per month by direct debit for a 'season ticket', which I consider pretty good value.

Re: Post transplant nightmares

Thanks for the suggestion, J0hnr. I've heard of sleep apnoea but have to confess it never crossed my mind I might have it! It could be the cause, on the other hand I only get the jumping awake thing on the first sleep cycle, it doesn't happen later in the night. But I will research it more and maybe...

Great news! Hope your recovery is smooth from now on.

We don't seem to have had any of these posts for a while. Here's hoping you start a trend.

Re: Could this be end stage now?

It's hard to say, but none of the symptoms sounds definitive. Restless legs can strike when you're a long way from end stage. I also think it would be unlikely to have v low kidney function without feeling nauseous.

I hope your father's uncomfortable symptoms improve.

Hello Layla, and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you've had such a shock. Unfortunately no-one can tell you anything without knowing the cause. How your disease might progress, how quickly or slowly, whether there's anything you can do to slow or stop the decline- all depends on the underlying reaso...
