Re: Gfr down to 19
Well I went and saw another neph who I am very happy with. I am currently bouncing between eGFR of 17 to 20 but am feeling very crook and tired. The neph wants a true GFR using nuclear medicine however it can't be done where I live so I must fly 1770 miles (one way) to get the test done. He suspects...

Re: Gfr down to 19
Things do move quickly sometimes. Saw my neph today who suggested it was time to have a fistula created. I still have egfr of 19 and he tells me he thinks he can keep me going for at least a couple of years. Perhaps he always has a punt each way and never on the nose. I also told him I had a prefere...

Re: Gfr down to 19
Hi Angie. This CKD is a bit of a wild ride isn't it? My last egfr result was 19 just yesterday. I've just changed nephrologists as I moved to a different area. He's an upbeat kind of guy and reckons he'll keep my kidney going for 3 or 4 more years. It seems an improbably long time but I like his con...

Re: Gfr down to 19
@Wagolynn - Yes, as soon as I hit level 5 I started seeing a renal dietician. As I said, told about the sodium, phosphorus and potassium, all of which are still in a good range incidentally. I have been avoiding sodium since my early thirties when I was first diagnosed with dodgy kidneys. From what ...

Re: Gfr down to 19
Just out of interest, as soon as I hit Stage 5 I was told to watch my diet. Avoid the potassium, phosphorus and of course sodium. There must be differing schools of thought with regard to the treatment of CKD I suppose.

Re: Gfr down to 19
Hey Angie, been wondering how you ended up. It looks like mine is a permanent drop. The last 2 egfr numbers were 24 then 21. My neph thinks I will settle in around the low 20's so I'm still kicking. There's nothing I can do about it but try to stay as healthy as possible. For me, low 20's is better ...

Re: Gfr down to 19
I had much the same thing in November. Dropped from 29 to 17 in 3 months. The neph took me off irbesartin for a week and retested. In a week I came back to 24 and was put on a half dose of irbesartin. A week off the irbesartin had my BP way up though. I will get bloods done again shortly to see how ...

Re: What caused your kidney disease?
I wish I knew - or that my doctors knew although it probably doesn't matter much. Either Reflux Nephropathy or glomerulonephritis. My condition was discovered 24 years ago after a motor vehicle accident in which I was badly knocked about. They discovered one shrunken scarred kidney and one extra lar...

Re: New to forum
Hi Solo, looks like you've been through a lot. I too have a shriveled left kidney which was discovered about 23 years ago (now 51). Although unsure they think it went bung either in the womb or when I was an infant. I have an eGFR of 27 and although I have my bad days, I'm ticking along alright. I a...

Hi Billie,
I treat myself to two nips of scotch or two beers ( a stubby beer is about 12 1/2 ounces) on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Thankfully it does not make me sick and it makes me very happy. My Egfr is 28

Re: Stage 4 and feeling crap!
Hi ScrapheapHuman, I too am at level 4 at 28. I have periods like you where I hit the wall - fatigue and nausea. Sometimes for a couple of days and once for a 3 or 4 week period. It's bad I know as it also renders me incapable of taking food which exacerbates the problem. I now have some prescriptio...

My symptons
About once a month I suffer from terrible nausea and extreme fatigue as well as headaches sometimes. Looking at my bloods, the following are high Creatinine Urea and the following are low Haemoglobin Red Cell Count Haematocrit I don't supposed it matters much but I am wondering which one causes this...

Re: Eventful clinic visit - any experience endoscopy or stat
I had a top and tail endoscopy a few months ago. I was sedated and had no problems at all - went out light and woke up when it was all over. I would award a VC to those folks who do either or both whilst conscious! As for statins, I have been on a low dose for about ten years and have had no effects...

Re: Frequency and duration of Dialysis
Thanks Cassie, since I've posted I have been doing some research and was troubled to read about the incidence of infection and peritonitis associated with PD. From what I have gathered, the average is to expect peritonitis once every 2 or 3 years which in my opinion is just not cool at all. My leani...
