Skin infection, or reaction on the skin, on my fistula

Hi all, I'm 53 and have been on HD dialysis for just over 2 months now. Its been going fine and i have a good fistula. BUT, about 5 or 6 weeks ago a boil burst on my fistula, which is on my upper left arm, and i think it infected the skin all over this area. Gradually since then, patches of infectio...

Re: Hello im Guy

Hi Guy, I truly sympathise with you. I'm 53 and have PKD (this is a gradual decline which doesn;t normally get to end stage until someone is in their 40's or 50's). I am now 53 and started dialysis for 2 months now, when my GFR got down to 7%. I do HD. I was not looking forward to it at all, but you...

Re: How I cured my glomerulonephritis

I stopped reading the post when I got to the bit about taking Chinese medicine.

I have read reports that it can be very harmful. I would never take it.

Re: suggestion... how about introducing ourselves??

Hi, I have posted on this forum a few times but can't remember if I introduced myself. My name is Clive, I have PKD. I found out I had it when I was 35. Its been a slow decline but now I'm 53 and my GFR is 9%. I have to have HD, as do most people with PKD (no room for PD). I haven't started dialysis...

Advice about work

Following on the theme of being in limbo with kidney disease ... i quit my last job about 6 months ago not because i felt ill, i felt ok but kept thinking that as my gfr was about 15 at the time that i wanted to do something else with what time i have left, rather than be a computer programmer. Now ...

Re: PKD Nephrectomy

Grey, i too want to wish you well. I too will be having this done soon. I am shortly going to have a fistula made (they were going to do a neck line but my live donor is temporarily unavailable). When that matures i am to start HD then they will remove one of my kidneys (i too have pkd). They said i...

Re: Hi Update from jbell

Dixie, Jan and all, i feel the same, like being in limbo for the past 3 years when my function was about 22%. At that time i couldnt help thinking about it all the time even though i haven't really had any symptoms over that time except gout. Now my function is 12% and sadly things are starting to h...

Re: Allopurinol

Thanks Tibbs and Grey, I agree with you Tibbs - about the 2 week wait thing. I only started getting gout in 2011 and it used to be twice a year in the summer, about 2 months apart. I never took anything for it and continued going to work, even though it was excruciatingly painful. It lasted about 7 ...

Allopurinol

Hello, iin 2014 i have been getting gout more often. My gfr is now 13. I want to start taking allopurinol but have been told you need to wait for 2 weeks after an attack before starting. Also i've been told that when you start allopurinol you may get an attack of gout so need some colchicine as well...

Re: Diet/Food suggestions for Kidney failure

i know cooked tomatos are supposed to be better for you than fresh its just that
recently i have been getting gout and i think (though i may be wrong) that cooked toms ie
tinned or pasta sauce can cause gout. I may be wrong but when you get gout you try not
to get it again.

Re: Diet/Food suggestions for Kidney failure

my gfr was 13 last time it was measured and my potassium was 4.9. Thats within normal range. I have never been told to avoid high potassium foods by any doctor. But i too keep reading that we should avoid them. Recently i have started eating bananas again and tomatoes (fresh only, not tinned or past...

Re: More news from me

yes i thought it took about half an hour to do. Maybe a bit of pushing and pulling but not painful.
At least thats what i've read about it. But on this forum i noticed a few people say it was an awful procedure. I'm hoping it isn't.
