Re: T2 diabetes

Hi cornflake. I got diagnosed with T2 about a month after my tranplant with blood sugar of 14. My transplant team reduced my pred from 5mg to 2.5mg and subsequently to 1mg per day. I watch my carb in-take, eating typically about 90g of carbs per day. This keeps my blood sugar in a range of about 4.5...

Re: Coping with not having children

Hi midgetem, I had a baby three years ago. At the time I got pregnant my creatinine was 220. I had discussed getting pregnant with my neph beforehand and he warned me that there may be complications and that my kidneys might fail. He was very supportive and encouraging though. I was heavily monitore...

Post transplant update from cathy

Hi all I have been meaning to update you for ages but I have been trying to get my head straight first. Physically I am feeling great :D :D My new kidney seems to be a real trooper - creatinine is generally in the 70s but hit an all time low of 61 at my last clinic!! A month after the transplant I w...

Re: nausea

Hi jooles & Everyone New kidney is doing great, creatinine in the 80s/90s. Only one major fly in the ointment - when I was in clinic 2 weeks ago my glucose was high (14.5) n apparently now I have diabetes. Really gutted about it. They are reducing my immuno meds but seem to think it will not rev...

Re: nausea

Hi jooles Sorry to hear you've not feeling great. Could it be heartburn? I had it bad on pd and even with the anti nausea medicine I usually felt unwell for the first 3 hours in the morning. I think that could b it as you also feel sick after naps-lying down makes the acid travel up your throat. I w...

Re: Living or existing with Kidney Failure

Grey what an articulate post. I can definitely relate to all of it. Pre pd when my kidneys were functioning at 5% and I could barely walk up the stairs people were constantly telling me how well I looked, the implication being that I must feel well. Now I've had my transplant and while it's great an...

suspected uti?

Hi all I was in clinic yesterday and mentioned to the doc that I thought I may have a uti. She said she would get it tested. Anyway so I rang the clinic today n it seems the full results won't b back until Tuesday (cause of the bank holiday weekend). Partial results came back clear. So they just tol...

Re: i got the call last week!!!

Thanks lads. I had clinic again today n my creatinine is back in the nineties thank god :D so the reduction in prograf did the trick! Also feeling much better since meds were reduced - less shaky n less nausea. So all good! Phos, hgb still low n bp still a little high but they reckon these will righ...

Re: i got the call last week!!!

Had my second day clinic today. Got a bit of a fright- creatinine has jumped from the 90s to 129. The docs didn't seem overly worried though - when my prograf levels came back they were high and apparently this can cause elevated creatinine. I had an ultrasound n they said everything looked good. So...

Re: Renal counseling

Thanks Richard for posting this. I was just saying to my husband last night that I am having a hard time coping with the level of risk we are now exposed to - higher risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease,....... the list seems endless. And this is when things are going really well for me! I don't w...
