Long term dialysis
Hi, I've not been on here for a long time but I've been on dialysis for 5 years and 6 months now and I'm really really fed up of it and get no support off anybody except one person that I know, my family is useless and not one of them is supportive they are the most selfish people I have ever known....

Re: Neckline insertion and prickly heat r ash connection
They don't just use Urokinase, they use that combined with something else, I just can't recall what that something else is. They used to use taurolock but in my 1st line that was pretty ineffective and they stopped using it on me and from what I've found out taurolocks ingredients are 4% citrate and...

Re: low potassium drinks
Tined vegetable's and fruit are OK providing you throw the liquid away they are canned in. I have tinned carrots and peas and I've never thrown the liquid away, I just pour the contents of the tin in a pan and warm them up on the hob using the liquid out of the tin, so are you saying I should empty...

Re: Neckline insertion and prickly heat r ash connection
I've been having haemodialysis now for the last 3 years and 7 months via a neckline, I've had 2 necklines now, 1 on the right side then when that stopped working well last October they removed it and put another 1 in on my left side and I've never had them use any citric based line locks in my line,...

Re: Sick of not being consulted! Can I do anything about it?
I know that from my own personal research that EPO injections into themuscle/under the skin have a better result, if put into you lines then this should be done at washback or during the last 30 minutes into the venous line. However from past expereince I know that in dialysis units it is mainly gi...

Sick of not being consulted! Can I do anything about it?
I went to dialysis tonight and found out through looking at my prescription that they've lowered my dry weight from 63.0kg to 62.5kg, this is after a conversation the other night when I was asked if I think I've put weight on, I wasn't eating properly but now am so I told them that yes I believe I h...

Re: Fistula pressure
Hi Duker5, No they cannot force you but they will try to encourage you to have the fistula because it is better for your long term health. The other option, to improve dialysis (when required), is to extend the treatment time. Most units are organised around 4 to 5hrs maximum per session, because m...

Re: Fistula pressure
The tunnelled catheter has a limited flow rate compared to a fistula. The higher the flow rate the 'better' the dialysis. Oh I know that but that's not the point, the point is if I don't want a fistula then surely I can't be forced into having one. Not that I'd let them force me anyway. Might be a ...

Re: Feel terrible on dialysis, can anything be done?
Have you discussed this with your consultant? Are you having water taken off, how are your blood results? Yes I've discussed it with my consultant and they just dismissed it, aka didn't even offer an explanation or resolve to how I feel... And yes I do have water taken off, but not massive amounts,...
