Re: Independant adjudicator for donorship - anyone?

Yes I did have a similar problem. My half brother & I didn't have any photos of us together. But I did have photos of him as a little boy with his sisters & with our Dad & his mother. I had photos of our Dad with my mother when I was young. I had a photo of my brother with my father's cu...

Re: New to forum, Is this the right place to introduce mysel

Hello, this is a good place to post & introduce yourself. I can relate to several aspects of the situation you find yourself in. I am nearly 4 years post tx from my much younger half brother (from my father's 2nd marriage) & I am the eldest of his 6 children and one step daughter. The younge...

Re: NHS care of the elderly in the news

Spin? Not at all. My sister and I realised that my mother was being neglected on the rehab ward at the local cottage hospital after being discharged from rehab hospital following a stroke. My mother used to live 2 hours drive away from me and 5 hours away from my sister. I was working in London. I u...

Re: My neph phoned me to ask me to cease posting on this for

The renal world is clearly a small world. I am writing this in the full knowledge that the neph is reading this. Until I stumbled across this forum I knew no one else who was on dialysis and going through what I was going through. Its value lies in the support patients & carers give to each othe...

9 weeks pregnant FSGS

Hi Louise Perhaps you could also consider who might be your live kidney donor in case you don't come off dialysis. I attended a tx seminar at my unit last week and it was made very clear that once a patient gets to 20% & depending how they feel - that is the time to go for live kidney donation f...

incapacity benefit

The first place showed ignorance. Just because someone is on dialysis does not mean they are incapable of work. Again just because someone is able to work while on dialysis it does not mean that everyone on dialysis is able to work. The same applies to disability living allowance. When filling out t...

post transplant and working

Hi Gilly I havent looked at the site for a while and saw your post hadnt had any replies. I think you're right - day by day is how you have to look at it and not compare yourself with how you think you ought to feel. Sometimes I am so pleased with how much I have done in a day, which I could never h...

rant

Feel free to rant - it's the one place where we all understand. Don't know about cut backs dont be so quick to label this. I wasn't supplied with drip stand; or scales; or scissors; or BP cuff. Baxter supplied the paper roll along with the other supplies/consumables and I was supplied with a bag war...

Hi Sanela
I'd try taking the aciclovir if it's been prescribed. In my simple non-medical lateral thinking ... it's a ciclovir. We get given valganciclovir to prevent/cure CMV. Think shingles, chicken pox, CMV come under Herpes and need anti viral drugs.

PD drain probs

Hi Geduramah Picking up from your post on Xmas foods. Like you I was potassium tolerant and had to watch my phosphates. I had been drinking a lot of orange juice half cut with water before starting PD so was told "well you dont need to worry about veggies". I tended to drink "normally...

No the right thing to do is to listen to the PD nurses and remember if you touch the end of the tube the drill is stop the exchange or whatever you are doing, clamp the tube, and go straight to the PD unit for a tube change. Do not pass Go, do not collect £100, do not stop for anything else. Even i...

one for the girls

Addition to my post above. I had a tcre & merino coil because I started getting a period every two weeks. On pd as they put iron into me I was losing it again. My gynae said he thought that there was link with CKD to period problems. Later found some research done at St Mary's in late 90s sugges...

It might be worth getting in touch with the doctor in charge of her - well before she is due to see him/her. I did not do HD so I dont know if this is commonly done i.e. to speed up the machine to fit in with the schedule. Frankly at first sight it doesn't appear to be in the patient's best interest...
