Re: Advograf and Mushroom Extract

Also look into the term survivor bias. The ones for whom it 'worked' will post lots, those that don't will post less.

This is true for things like pyramid schemes as well.

Re: Advograf and Mushroom Extract

You must talk to your consultant before taking any new medication. They (or your renal pharmacist) can look into any interactions. Even if there aren't any interactions, you will need to be very careful about where you source herbal medication. Given that herbal medications are often not regulated, ...

Re: "Please Offer Me A Seat"

not that it will do a lot ... London is so different from anywhere else ... I stood all the way on the tube with my walking stick going too and from hospital ... and at no time was there even a hint of a seat being given up ... if a walking stick doesn't suggest someone needs a seat ... a badge isn...

Re: Pre-transplant immunosupression therapy

I had 15 rounds of plasmapheresis post-transplant to fix some rejection issues I was having. It's pretty straight forward. They'll probably put a line into you - I had a line into my groin to start off with, which was rather uncomfortable going in, but was fine after. I then upgraded to a Tesio line...

Re: Biopsy

If it's your native kidney, be prepared to lie on your back afterwards for a few hours. You generally have to pass 2 clear urine tests before they let you go. You might be a bit sore for a few days, but it quickly passes.

A good book and headphones can be useful!

Re: Second neckline question

I had a fairly big nick when I had my neckline put in, and less than a year after, you wouldn't even know it was there. You could just about feel it if you knew where to touch. 4 years later, and I couldn't tell you where it was.

Re: DNR

From my understanding, nothing is withdrawn on DNR, you just don't get rescuscitated if you go into cardiac arrest or something else happens and your heart stops. Deciding to withdraw is a whole other thing and usually covered off by a living will or similar. If they don't have one then it will be d...

Re: Showering with a neckline

When I had one, I had a small dressing with a notch out of it over the wound site, and a massive tegaderm to cover everything fpr showering. I would wind the tesio up so the ends were up by the entry site so the lines went down and up, then I stuck the Tegaderm over the top. The ones they gave me we...

Re: Gfr down to 19

I've had it both pre- and post-transplant.

Get propoerly hydrated and see what it goes back to. Post transplant I've gone from 380 to 220 in less than 12 hours after a period of dehydration. 220 is my post-transplant baseline.

Re: Very frequent urination after tx

The transplant team have said it's normal but if it goes on he will have to insist on getting some help. He doesn't always pass anything but feels he wants to go all the time. Perhaps he's still feeling theffects of the stent removal. Yup, had the peeing fresh air thing after stent removal too. It ...

I had this - I was up 5 times in a night for the first month or so. It does get better, I think it was back to normal a few months down the line.

Re: Is Kidney Disease a Permanent Disability?

Yes, you're covered by the Equality Act since the disease you have is incurable and not your fault.

I don't know whether it's classed as a permanent disability, but it's certainly something worth checking out with your local Kidney Patients' Association or your Citizen's Advice Bureau.

A long charger cable for your phone/tablets.

The longest you can get is 3m I think and it's worth getting one that you know will reach from your bed to the plugs. Certainly in HDU in Hammersmith it's quite a long way!

Re: Has anyone had to change career due to kidney issues?

Mrs Travis, As to mentioning your condition at interview - I think you must, if you get a job, you will not be able to hide your condition for long, and it will become plain to the employer you withheld the information. This leaves the employer with the thought, what else did you not tell them? Bet...

Re: Kidney Disease Recovery

None of that works. If it did - we'd all be using it. The only treatment right now is dialysis and transplant. There are some exciting developments coming down the track, using animal organs is being reassessed, and growing organs will be a thing, but both of them are many years away. Do the doctors...
