Re: Dialysis in Holland
Hi ! The general hospital MST in Enschede can be the right place for you, contact information easily found over Google and it seems to be situated around 5 km from the German border. My experience from dialysis in a general hospital is from Italy and I´m very pleased however I guess the Dutch hospit...

Re: Long term dialysis
Hi Duker ! Sorry to hear about your bad situation but hope they´ll soon be able to offer you a transplant. It seems like you have an excess of calcium in your blood which is very common among patients with kidney failure. You can talk to your doctor about medication to help with this as cinacalcet a...

Re: Levels of PTH
Hi Lizzyie ! The increase in calcium and pth is caused by over-active parathyrea glands and for your bone-health it is most important to get these values into the tolerance window. I guess your doctor follows one of two paths to achieve this: 1. Medication with Mimpara (cinacalcet) and D-vitamines 2...

Re: High PTH in UK
You´re welcome Birdman. It seems like Parsabiv is accepted by the NHS in England and Wales but there are objections from a medical organisation in Scotland. However it ´s surprising that your consultant didn´t put you on Mimpara (cinacalcet) when PTH started to creep up from the 35-level Please keep...

Re: High PTH in UK
Hi !
There is an injection version of cinacalcet called Parsabiv (etelcalcetide) suitable for hemodialysis patients. This might give you less side effects than with cinacalcet.
best regards

Re: Mimpara
If you struggle with side effects from Mimpara (cinacalcet) you can ask your neph for a trial with a new drug, Parsabiv (etelcalcetide). This one is injected in the needle directly after the dialysis session and may suit you better.

Re: Low potassium diet
Good, now you have a stronger potassium concentrate in your dialysis machine and I guess this will do the trick. They can regulate your PTH with Alfakalcidol so you can use Resonium if you for some reason must go back to the weaker concentrate. Resonium is efficient and does not taste too bad if you...

Re: Low potassium diet
Hi Chris ! You can do some checks before you attack the diet question. What about your dialysis machine, if HD, do you use the strongest potassium concentrate to take out the most of it ? If on PD I suppose this is no point. Have you discussed the option to complete your dialysis with oral intake of...

Re: Coping with fluid restriction...help needed
Hi Dotty !
I wonder why they give you a fluid restriction in litres per day. To me it would be more accurate to count in percentage of the body weight. A person of 100 kgs must be able to accumulate more fluid than one 50 kgs. What do you and the others think of this ?
Best regards

Re: Haemodialysis twice a week
Hello shep ! Talk this over with your neph dr, no rash moves ! If your own kidney function has improved it can be enough with two sessions a week to get a sufficient weekly dialysis ratio (kt/v) provided your water balance is OK. If all this is satisfying doc can reduce your clinic time. Maybe you´l...

Really a positive reason then Amanda, I thought the contrary ! Only good things then, two medicines reduced. As I can see the steroids can give you a thinner skin but the information doesn´t indicate other skin problems. I guess your well being has improved with less tablets to take and there is at ...

Re: Irbesartan
AmandaClare: I think you can add phosphate and potassium (this one especially when you are on ACE/ARB-inhibitors) to the basic parameters to check. It ´s a pity that you have to reduce an Irbesartan-dose giving a steady blood pressure for medical reasons, hope they can sort it out so you can go back...

Exactly Tibbs Due to the side effects it may be useful to ask for the most selective or differently working preparates in each group. The beta blocker Bisoprolol and the calcium blocker (Amlodipine-group) Lercanidipine. I have good experience of both regarding energy levels at training and ankle swe...

Re: Help please - high potassium via blood pressure meds
Dotty: it can take a while to get rid of the ankle swelling when using Amlodipine, maybe you dumped it too early ! John: to improve the situation until you come to the neph you can ask for some changes in order to reduce the BP without increase the potassium. I guess you are now on 10 mg of Amlodipi...
