Re: My Covid experience…so far
Update. I’m actually feeling much better. But after another day of chasing how to get the antivirals, I just took myself to St Thomas A&E and then they sent me to the CMDU (Covid medicine delivery unit) at St Thomas’ At the CMDU the Dr. Said it was still worth me having the antiviral treatment d...

My Covid experience…so far
As fellow TX patients I thought you’d be interested to hear how I’m getting on after testing positive on Monday. I’ve had all my jabs (all 4) and I’m on 1.5 Tac BD, MMF 250 BD and 5 pred. I had my kidney from my brother about 10 years ago. Both my wife and daughter tested positive on Saturday, so I ...

Re: Vaccines for Covid 19
Hi all, I used to post on here quite a lot (through dialysis, PD and Heamo) then I was lucky enough to get a TX from my brother 9 years ago. I had a chat with Guys (my hospital) today about my worries about the vaccine’s effectiveness. What I was told was that while our meds cause lower antibodies p...

Transplant Triathlete
Hi, I first joined here when I discovered I had kidney disease (with an eGFR of 40) about 5 years ago. Since then I've experienced pretty much everything someone with kidney failure has to go though: Kidney failure itself and the symptoms that go with it (gout, high blood pressure EPO injections, sw...

Re: BK virus
This what the National Kidney Federation says about the BK Virus. There's not much info anywhere about it. Even the Drs don't really know much about it. I got my results back and it's negative again. Looks like it's finally gone! Woo hoo! "BK is a virus that causes a minor illness in healthy pe...

Re: BK virus
Yes, I've had it for about a year. It a disease that most people have but it only becomes active when the patient takes immuno drugs. It can cause creatinine to rise. What used to happen was the Drs would take this as a rejection episode. And up the immunos, making it worse. However, nowadays they t...

Re: Exercise and dialysis
It totally depends how you feel. at it's lowest my HB was around 7. During this time I trained and raced in a 10k. Very slow time compared to my 'fit' time but I ran the whole thing. I also used to go bike riding. I could ride about 50/60k but where you'll really struggle is hills. It's like someone...

I didn't have any symptoms. At Guys they routinely check for it (I think) after 3 months.

BK virus finally gone!!!!
After a year it looks like my BK virus has finally gone. There is no cure and it can lead to BK nephropathy, which damages the kidneys. The protocol to deal with it, is lower your drugs until there's enough of your immune system left to fight it. (But not so much you get an acute rejection episode) ...

Re: chrisb's journey
Your route dialysis sounds very similar to mine. I went on APD, while I was waiting for my brother to have his tests. My tube got infected and had a neckline fitted (although it's I don't know why they call it this its more like a chest line) This was my lowest point, I couldn't see how things could...

Before I started dialysis I thought I could learn a language with the extra time I had.
I didn't , I just watched loads of films and slept. But the thought was there...

Re: Painful Scar post transplant
It took me about a month before I could wear jeans and a belt.
Up until then I wore track suit bottoms.
The scar a year later is still a bit numb, but no pain whatsoever.
Good luck.

Re: Exercise post transplant
I have been exercising 5/6 days a week for the past 8 months as I was training for a triathlon. I'm quite lucky I guess that I don't get any reaction from my drugs. And bloods say I'm as fitter than I have been years. I raced at the European Championships in Germany and came in the top 40%. And trus...
