food not to eat

On my list: grapefruit (interactions) Sushi (bacteria - although I admit, I do enjoy a spicy tuna roll on occasion) unpasteurized cheese - although I try to avoid most cheese in general. I had a really nasty bacterial infection in my stomach from a bad scallop about 4 months post TX. I lost 25 lbs i...

Go for it!

I would encourage you to get started ASAP. First, you can't be sure your donor will end up being a workable match - I had 3 donors rejected at the absolute last minute. Second, the way you will feel afterwards is beyond compare - you have no idea right now how tired you are - worth every piece of mi...

Hair loss

Yes, that happened to me around the 4 month mark and then stopped within a month. Seems like that happens to others too. I didn't lose much but kept finding it all over my black coat...

Is anyone else as ticked off at Katie Couric as I am?

On Tuesday 11/23 Ms. Couric was interviewing Steven Cojocaru (the crazy Hollywood e-reporter) about his need for a transplant. Cojo has PCOS. Apparently he has just loads of friends willing to donate. At the end of the rather trite interview Katie says "Oh Steven, Matt and Al (her co-stars) say...

It's 3am and I am AWAKE

I know it's the prednisone - currently at 20mg to be reduced this week thank the good lord. Any tips on getting some sleep? I manage to fall asleep on schedule but I only stay sleeping for a couple of hours then I am wide awake for a few hours before falling asleep again. I manage to get a lot done ...

I have a new kidney!

:D Just a quick note to say that one week ago today I received a transplant from my aunt! So far, so good. Creatinine is stable at 1, no sign of rejection (knock on wood) and I feel WONDERFUL! Everything went incredibly smoothly and I can't believe how much better I feel than before. I had my surger...

PD for me

I didn't like the idea of a fistula in my arm though the catheter is a pain in the ass as well (I have a horrible/funny story about airport screening and my catheter..). I like doing it at home. I'm on the cycler at night so I just hook up and go to sleep. I don't like having to be someplace - I wor...

I have been gone too long

Hello everyone This is Christine in DC and I have been very bad about posting. The past 4 months have been a whirlwind for reasons that will be obvious in this post. I am 40, married to Robert 44. We live in the nation's capital patiently awaiting the day when the boy-chimp will be leaving (Ok, I re...

Message to Christine's doctor - 'YOU'RE FIRED!'

It is so hard to get rid of doctors because you want to believe that because of their training, experience etc. they have the answers and therefore command respect. At the end of the day they are just people and their are good ones and lousy ones. It seems like you have found a truly lousy one. As a...
