Re: questions for the PD patients-lost dwell time and neg. U

hi, the baxter machine has a feature called smart dwell which is on by default. it is to ensure the whole therapy ends when requested. if a drain takes longer than expected the dwell time for following cycles is reduced -leading to lost dwell, and reduced dialysis. I have this feature turned off. it...

How to cope with a life limiting condition.

Hi all, Sorry if this is not a suitable forum for such a topic but having found it tonight and found an affinity with the people on it I thought I would give it a go. I received a heart transplant back in 1990. It was fine until a few years ago when it developed a tricuspid valve failure. This overwo...

Re: DIY SOS

Hi all,
I know someone who has been on HD at home for 35 years and appears OK- he cycles around town. I think the issue could be that the best dialysis is HD at home every day for ~2.5 years.

In my case my heart is failing so a transplant is not possible.

I think putting useful intro info into your signature would be better, thenevery post will include it. Also fill out the user profile, particularly location in case some one lives near you as discussing face to face is so good

Re: Very low initial drain on APD

Rather than spend time attached to the machine for the initial drain I attach to a drain bag, supplied by Baxter. That way I can spend more time away from the machine. Similarly in the morning I stop early using an Opticap, attach a drain bag so I get away from the machine and then after an hour or ...

Re: APD advice

Hi danmiller84, sorry to hear you have such a problem. I am on APD with a Baxter machine and do not have this problem. Are you placing the mainbag ( the one on the machine) properly so that it covers the thermometer. How about attaching a photo of you setup at the point of priming. How warm is your ...

Re: Holidays on PD

Hi all, I am on APD ( with a Baxter machine) and travel is fine provided you give Baxter enough notice via your NHS PD unit (in UK) . You have to take the machine in its travel case so you may need a helper as it is heavy.

Re: Low Drain Volume

Hi all, this is obviously a problem for many of us on APD. The measures I have taken are: 1. Turn Smart dwell off. This means that each dwell is exactly the length of time in the therapy, One result is that the whole therapy can take much longer. 2. As I do not drain well and I have no job to do, be...

Re: HELP -Current UF

Hi SimonJoshep, I am on APD myself and can suffer from low UF. A few questions about your setup: Are you using a Baxter machine? if so what is the amount of lost dwell each day. Do you have Smart Dwell turn on ( the default)? Do you drain well? Do you mind giving details of your therapy, volumes, ti...
