Re: Post-kidney transplant fertility & pregnancy

Hi, Just an update. Transferred onto Aza in April and kidney function wasn't affected at all (in fact it is better than ever, last week it was 98!). No joy on the baby front, yet, but then I have spent the last few months out of action so to speak due to various abnormal cervical smears & having...

Re: Pregnancy and fertility

hi- No experiences (yet) as I have just changed drugs from MMF to Azathioprine and we are waiting until the 6 weeks suggested wait has passed. Kidney function has been blipping up and down since the changeover, so we might wait until we know for sure that things have settled down ok. Then I need to ...

Re: Post-kidney transplant fertility & pregnancy

hi all, Thanks for everyone for all their thoughts. It is a scary prospect, but even though my function is really good at the moment, like Amanda says, I am looking at the window of opportunity and want to get on with it while my function is still good, because the greatest risk occurs when the func...

Re: Affect of high altitude on Kidneys - Anyone know?

hi,
I have not heard anything about the effect of altitude on kidneys, but I travel regularly to Nairobi & the central Highlands of Kenya, which is about 1,795 metres (5,889 ft) above sea level and have not had any ill effects on my transplant, if that helps

I say go and enjoy!

Re: almost dead but not quite

oh no, this is devastating news. Pam has been inspirational to both myself and a lot of people on this forum over the past few years. I will be thinking of her and her family and hoping for peace at this difficult time

Re: immunsupressed and cancer

Just to add to the voices about getting yearly smear tests after transplant - Mine detected pre-cancerous cervical changes, which i have had removed. I was told that most pre-cancerous changes go back to normal but often not in transplanted patients. Of course, they said this could be nothing to do ...

Re: Epstein Barr Virus

Hi all, Agree with what everyone said about how you feel post-tx depends on what you were like pre-tx. Even though I was on dialysis I was lucky enough to feel very well, in part because my decline was so slow/gradual that I did not feel ill. This meant the 3 months time post-Transplant was very dif...

Re: Boxes boxes everywhere!!!

Hi Fabrette Nothing to add about boxes, but I know that starting dialysis is tough and is like having a bombshell dropped onto your life. The first 3-4 months will be really tough physcologically, but I agree with Mandy that a positive mental attitude from the start is crucial (even if you feel like...

Re: CKD - standards of care

Ooo, good to see that they recommend laparoscopic insertion of peritoneal dialysis catheter - when I had mine done in 2005 it was open surgery, so now have an ugly 4 inch scar running down from my navel

Andy, I don't have anything useful to say, but I wanted to post as I'm so very very sorry to hear this :(
Dialysis might be scary, but hopefully it'll make you feel heaps better.

Re: General nosiness - your diagnosis to treatment time fram

About 3 weeks! I was anaemic, so the doctors did some blood tests to find out 'why': Two days later I was told I had 10% kidney function (absolutely no prior knowledge of this), a week later I had my peritoneal catheter and a week after that I did my first dialysis. Was pretty horrible

Re: Is Kidney Disease Certain?

Remember that eGFR is just that: estimated. eGFR can be swayed by things like height/weight/muscle-mass, giving falsely low or high results. See here: http://www.edren.org/pages/handbooks/unit-handbook/gfr-estimation.php Have you discussed your results with a nephrologist (specialist kidney person)?...
