Re: almost dead but not quite

Thanks so much to everyone for all the kind thoughts, prayers and wishes! I am home now and back on my old ragged computer...yay! I'll have to remember though to have some sort of computer with me at every visit to the hospital-you are right Keith- it makes the time fly. Well, just wanted to c...

almost dead but not quite

Hello all It's me--Pam! Have been in the hospital for about a month but am getting better. Was going to have hip replacement surgery but many things went wrong and I became very sick and developed malnutrition. They gave me a medication that almost killed me. I am currently writing you from a hospit...

Re: Ode to a Dialysis Diet

Thank you Lorna...I'm glad you enjoyed the poem and glad it gave you a laugh! Yes, it is so true that we want all the foods (and drinks) we cannot have...I am fortunate that with PD I don't have to watch my fluids so much, but I remember being on hemo and it seemed I ALWAYS saw fountains and brooks ...

Ode to a Dialysis Diet

The other day I was in the supermarket and surrounded by forbidden foods, I decided to write out this poem for all dialysis patients who are in the same situations: IRRESISTABLE ENEMY I went to the grocery store today Phosphorus and sodium stood in my way I then passed by cheeses, so yummy and fair ...

Hey Kipper, I heartily agree with what everyone else has said! I do not think your neph has the right or the power to stop you from posting here. It's still a free world although sometimes we as kidney patients get treated as though we have no rights when it comes to stating our views or complaints....

Re: Where to put your PD machine

I got an adjustable camping table--it can be raised or lowered as needed. The legs have notches in them to facilitate this...I have it down to about 2 feet as this is a little higher than the height of my bed but it can be raised up to the height of a regular table. It has a hard plastic surface so ...

Restless legs...any help?

I have restless legs almost every night and it is making sleep almost impossible...I have it sometimes during the day also, but it doesn't bother me as much as it does at night. I'm going to mention it to my doctor, but want to know if there are any medications or anything else that might ease my le...

Re: Low blood pressure

Hello Dialysis Queen! I recently had a bad bout with a virus and was in the hospital twice. When I was home after the first hospitalization, I became extremely dizzy every day. I would lie down and take my b/p-it got as low as 70/56 and I had trouble walking across the room. My mother had to help me...

How is this possible?

Hi all, I was looking at some websites on phosphorus content in foods and came across something rather peculiar...one of the lists stated that cream cheese and sour cream were low in phosphorus. I thought all dairy products were high phosphorus! This was good news for me as I LOVE sour cream...

Scratching my skin off--HELP!

Hi all, I began taking Renvela a couple of months ago--my phosphorus was very high. It has since come down a bit, but the itching is making me crazy! It really started very recently-my feet and hands seem to be the most affected. I have intense itching on each finger and between them also. My ...

Hi Kipper, I am sorry for all of this! Seems that it's not enough we have to deal with our illness, but also with people who may be less than professional--those who are put in charge of our care. You stated that "This man has complete control over my care, if my transplant fails he will decide...

Renvela side effects?

Hi all, I began taking Renvela for phosphorus control a couple of weeks ago. I have been having to run to the bathroom constantly, it seems! I get stomach cramps that feels like when you have the flu. It doesn't happen every time I take the Renvela, but it's enough to be a bother. :? Have any of you...

Re: How can people be so selfish?

Amanda, I am so sorry about all of this. In my own experience,I've discovered that people I know often grow weary of me always "needing" something or just being sick all the time....HUH! They should have to be in our shoes for a couple of weeks! We didn't choose this way of life, and when ...
