Re: New issues

Hi Amanda, Long time no speak... I am sorry to hear your latest news. I also have similar moments. I get to a point where I just refuse to think about it all. I try to get really busy whether making papier mache things with Nadine or organising the house. I find that keeping as busy as possible is t...

Countdown to plasma exchange & live transplant

Hi, Well, I'm a bag of nerves! After childhood kidney problems (reflux), early twentites dialysis, one transplant age 21 (lasted 13 yrs) and presently 5 years on dialysis and antibodies coming out of my ears, I am due to have a course of plasmapheresis to reduce my antibodies and my ex-husband to do...

my fistual didn't buzz for the first ten days or so and I was booked in to have another one - but then it started working. It periodically stops and then gets going again - which is a bit alarming. But I've been using it since March without too many problems...

I had peritonitis in March and was in hopsital for 2 weeks on IV antibiotics - which didn't work intiially and I had two operations to basically open me up and physically wash out the infection and to remove the cuffs which had previously held my catheter in place. I lost one stone in weight and now...

Hi everyone and thanks for your responses. Well, I'm now back home after 2½ weeks in hospital having got peritonitis when the tube was removed! Oooh that was so painful. The lumpiness under the skin exploded a couple of days after with a rather nasty green ps and in to hospital I went. I had an eme...

Tenkoff now out

Hi, Ive had my tube taken out that I was using for APD - which is great. But - it's very sensitive and feeling bruised inside. Also it feels lumpy under the skin. The pain was so bad earlier that only 2 tramadol and two ibroprofen managed to make it ok. I just wondered if this is normal for after th...

I have thought this in the past too - but everyone I ask - even Nadine's Dad who can be brutally honest! - has said that I don't smell at all. I have an idea that when the urea levels get high we can smell it inside our noses rather than it smelling on the body - if that makes sense?

 Nope - I never heard that before and I've had two tenkoff catheters fitted. Never mentioned to me and never had any problems. I'm sure you will have sufficient local that nothing in the region should hurt at all. Best of luck with the operation. I had medazalan as a sedative for mine and it ...

I always found that after my iron (and aranesp) I would pick up in about 3-4 days. They do it at the dialysis unit now so I don't have to jab myself any more .... which is nice. I hope you start to feel better soon - it's ahorrible feeling.

Hi Kath, I really empathise as I'm in a similar kind of place. It's really tough initially trying to get used to the fluid restriction. I've bought small glasses and mugs that only hold about 100 ml as it makes it easier for me to keep track of how much. If I'm parched I suck on an ice cube too. No ...

Hello again, Thank you all so much for responding and being uplifting. Today is a better day than yesterday, my arm isn't too sore like after the first blow. I've been given some Elmo?? to put on an hour before next time instead of the lindnocaine - which apparently can make the veins collapse? So t...
