Re: UTIs
I'm the UTI queen! While my transplant was working, I also had non stop UTI's, I'm also surprised you haven't been put on a prophylactic antibiotic, I used to have the antibiotic changed every 2 - 3 months so that I wouldn't be come immune to the current one. Even on antibiotics, I still seemed to s...

Re: Paired / Pooled Donation / Plasmapheresis
Thanks Mandy, Amanda and Smudge. I'm going to have to do a bit more research in the pooled / paired donation system in the UK, but think you're right Mandy about them putting the names forward every three months. David and I were bombarded with so much information, and totally out of the blue last F...

Paired/Pooled Donation, also Plasmapheresis - need info pls!
Not been here for a long time again, but just wondered if anyone's had any experience of paired or pooled donation? Things all went horribly wrong for us last Friday. My husband was being worked up to donate a kidney to me, everything was going really well and because I've had major problems with di...

Hiya, I'm just looking for a bit of advice and I'm sure from past experience, this is the place to get it. Those of you who know me, know I'm having a lot of problems right now with my new fistula, which has clotted and is irrepairable. I've the worst veins in the world and the vascular people are h...

Re: Ode to a Dialysis Diet
Fantastic Pam, love the poem - and it all rings so true! Grocery shopping really depresses me, there's so much we're not allowed but it's the drinks aisles that I can't stand! I find myself just staring at bottles of coke and juice, imagining huge ice filled glasses of aforementioned drinks ...........

Re: Glucose in urine
Hi Ali Hopefully the glucose in your urine is just a one off, but there could be various reasons for it. How long ago before the test had you eaten or had anything to drink, and had you eaten/drank anything particularly sweet or sugary? Your infection or any meds you're currently taking could also e...

Re: Sore back
IgAn, sounds very much like you have a urine infection. Before my transplant failed, I suffered UTIs every other week, some very symptomatic and other times I'd no apparent sypmtoms and the infection was only detected because of routine urine tests at clinic. Quite often I'd be in absolute agony, ro...

Re: Where to put your PD machine
Hi Lily
I just used my small bedside cabinet for my PD machine (Baxters Homechoice Pro), but anything round about the height of your bed should do. The cabinet I used had a couple of drawers, which was great for storing mini-caps, connection shields etc. Good luck in finding something

Big Changes - Back on Dialysis
Hi, I've not been here for a long, long time - there's hundreds of new names now but good to see lots of names (and friends) I recognise from before. My transplant failed late last year, after about 10 years and I started back on pd, with the machine overnight, which I had done before my transplant ...

Re: Transplant failing
Hi Andy, Today's the first I've looked on here for a long, long time - really sorry to hear your transplant's failing, but I know exactly what you're going through. My transplant failed at the end of last year, I was on PD for about 6 months and started haemo dialysis about 5 weeks ago now, finally ...

Hiya Thanks again for all the reassuring replies. I'd an appointment with transplant surgeon last week, who's now quite happy to activate me on the list for the pancreas and kidney when the time comes, but also had my head fried all week as I really didn't know what to do - I've the option of the do...

Thanks everyone! Can't believe I've been away from here for so long! Keith, do you really think 8 1/2 yes is a short transplant life? I'm chuffed to have got this far, and hopefully I've still a year or more to go before I'm at the stage I need the next one! The more I think about it, the double tra...
