Re: Bicarb etc Not Reported on PatientView

Hi Birdman,

I get my bicarbonate results on Patientview.

Neil Turner is a nephrologist in Edinburgh who works on Patientview, and he is a member of this forum (username nturner).

Good luck with your parathyroidectomy.

Re: Mortgage

I have a mortgage and a transplant, and I'm single. When I applied for the mortgage, I knew I had ADPKD, although I wasn't in Stage 5 then. I can't remember whether or not I was asked about health issues, but I would have disclosed any information requested. I certainly disclosed my renal disease to...

Re: Sleepsafe Alarms

Hi Birdman, I definitely didn't have that many alarms when I was using a Fresenius Sleepsafe machine. I did get a lot of alarms when I had a Baxter machine, however, mainly involving drain issues. I would first try talking to your dialysis nurses to see if they can explain and address the problem. Y...

Re: Fresenius Sleep Safe Machine

Hi Birdman,

I'm pretty sure I had two user manuals for my Fresenius machine... one basic one, as you say, and then a comprehensive ring binder. Both were supplied with the machine.

Re: BK virus

I had BKV virus for about six months last year. It's apparently very common, but causes no symptoms in "normal" people. I had to stop taking MMF while I had the virus, to allow my body to fight it off. Obviously, this does increase the chance of rejection during that time. However, my leve...

Re: APD Electricity Cost

Hi Birdman, It's hard, isn't it? You think that the hospital and staff are already doing so much for you, you don't want to ask for anything else... Good luck with reclaiming the cost of running your machine.... it does help. Good to hear that you are with Fresenius though... I had a Baxter APD mach...

Re: APD Electricity Cost

Hi Birdman, I was and am working. I'm not eligible for hospital transport, and have never thought of trying to claim for fares to and from appointments, so I don't think I would have asked about claiming for the cost of running the APD machine.... the hospital must have told me about it. I guess it'...

Re: APD Electricity Cost

When I remembered to do so, I was able to reclaim the costs of running my APD machine. The Royal London Hospital paid three monthly in arrears. I had to submit my electricity bills to claim, and they paid a standard rate for running the machine. A quick flick through my bank statements shows I recei...

Re: anybody with low GFR( mine is 20) and still continue to

Hi, I'm a teacher too, although possibly a bit older than you are (I'm now 55). I cut down to four days a week when my eGFR dropped to 15% and I was listed for a transplant. I did get tired, but working gave me a reason to get up in the mornings, and kept me sane.... I worked successfully during the...
