Re: CAPD Bag Heaters

I set up an inverter to supply 240 v for Judith to run a bag heater, and later a baxter machine. just be careful as the nicer small heaters have some sort of switch mode heater, as it use to send the ships generator crazy with voltage swings. The Victron agent near wawrick supplied the inverter, aft...

Re: About peritoneal dialysis...

Hullo yachtman, I have a question about the inverter and batteries, did you get these from Baxter or supply them yourself? I have been on APD for a year now and so we have been unable to go boating (which is my husbands main escape from stress!) Do you have any advice on how you set things up (I'm ...

Re: About peritoneal dialysis...

Hi Just to put another slant on it. J has been on apd for 5 years now with supplies from Baxters. 1 Fluid use starts small and increases as the kidneys fail, she is now on 3x 5 ltr and 1 x 2.5 ltr bags per day. 2 she started with fluid collected in waste bags, but for the last few years on and outle...

Re: Trialist Required

How does the system cope with the precipitation of Fibrin as the effluent cools on the way to the main drain connection. At the moment the basin needs a regular plungering to free the fibrin jelly. As we have a 2 basin bathroom, always putting the drain in just one, which was used less as a conseque...

Re: PKD Nephrectomy

Good luck and hope all goes well. What years ago would have been major has almost become routine. J Had a 12kg polycystic one removed lapriscopicaly removed 2 years ago. sorry about spilling! After a too long await, being unable to keep food down by the time of the op. Afterwards she was on hemo via...

Re: PD not working?

Hi Dotty

You sound to be an ideal candidate for home hemo, if they do it in your area, then I imagine you will be back in charge. Have no personal experience other than it has been inferred if J's APD packs in that will be the route we follow.

Re: Low Drain Volume

Determine which side you lie on gives the better drain, then try to sleep on that one.

otherwise try not to get the pipe squashed / kinked.

strangely the flow got better after about a month in Js case.

Re: Trolley for PD machine

My betterhalf has an ikea kitchen trolley with a under shelf for the fluids, now 3x 5 1x2 and a 3 ltr bags and a bottom shelf for the effluent bags and tray. It certainly helped in the early years as removed the need for a disconnection for bathroom visits. now 4 years in and the effluent is pumped ...

Re: HOLIDAYS ABROAD ON CYCLER????

We took supplies from uk and cycler, again offered transformer, but as we were on a motor boat with generators and shore supply stated didn't need a transformer as was confident of electrical supply and voltage. Used day bags for the first trip, then took machine as have an inverter to provide night...

Re: Noisy Machine

That's interesting. I tend to press mine quite hard in to place. I've also mastered the different nosies so I can tell what it's doing! A friend showed me how to get rid of the display so now I have only a little green dot which goes from left to right and if I want to know where I'm at, I press th...

Re: Pets?

We have a 17 yr old Siamese, who well predated the 3 yrs of PD. We keep him out of the bedroom while setting up and connecting/ disconnecting, otherwise he has free run. don't have any problem with him sitting on the heated bags etc as there is a radiator shelf which is hotter. Can certainly vouch f...

We stand it on a closed cell compressed foam, (which came packing an inverter) particularly when on the boat, otherwise the locker below acts as a sounding board!

See if you can set a lower initial drain volume. depends if your area lock down the software. Fortunately here they don't.

Re: kidney removal and subsequent inability to have PD

J had a polysistic kidney laproscopicaly removed last year.

After 6 weeks on a neck line, she has been back on home pd since, and is expected to remain so for quite a while.
