HAPPY TRANSPLANTIVERSARY TO RICHARD TODAY!!!

Well we made it! And I'm so very proud of my husband! As with all of you on this forum, he's been through so much! So far, except for screwy blood counts and a slow start with 2 infections, it's gone pretty well. The steroid free protocol saved him from many of the side effects that Ronnie described...

Where will you have your transplant? Richard was scheduled for UCSF, but actually had his transplant at UC Davis. We live in Livermore. If there are any questions, we can answer, please let us know. Richard got his new kidney on Holloween 2004. He was scheduled to get one from his son, but this dono...

Richard and I went away for a few days - our first since his transplant, but we certainly never planned to come home to this. Jim is a mainstay of advice and common sense in our lives. We hope all continues to remain stable and improves. We need you here for all of us!!!! Our thoughts and prayers ar...

Richard has had a couple of them, and they both (according to him) were pretty much pain free. When he had the last one, just last summer, they had a new plug they put over the puncture site in the groin, so he didn't have to lay flat for 8 hours with a weight on the site. He was sitting up eating i...

Post Transplant Question

Richard is 9 months post transplant and now is being told he has an enlarged spleen and also high alkaline phosphates. The nephro at the Transplant Center seems to think both are probably from dialysis/anti-rejection drugs, but our hometown doctor has sent him to a hemotologist who wants a cat scan ...

Maybe it's a US thing, but Richard has had a private room everytime he's been admitted. They always says it's due to chance of infection. We like it because we can visit more freely and stay later. It also gives me a little extra piece of mind when I know his immune system is so compromised. Even th...

We only know that Richard got his kidney from a 20 year old trama victim from Texas. We are allowed to write a letter to the donor family which goes to our Transplant Co-ordinator and is forwarded on to the family. They then can reply or ask to contact us directly. It's allowed here if both parties ...

Richard is 7 months post transplant and is only on Prograf and Cellcept for anti-rejection. He doesn't seem to have had any adverse effects. The Univeristy of California at Davis uses this protocol and has for sometime now. It is pretty widely accepted here, so must have been pretty thoroughly teste...
