Re: T-1 week to transplant
After 12 days I'm finally glad to be home! The hospital kept me a little longer than expected, first because of balloning blood pressure and then with then with some elevated liver enzymes. In the end I said I would rather go home and follow up outpatient after spending 12 days being pricked daily. ...

Re: T-1 week to transplant
Thanks everyone! Neckline came off this morning and I'll be moving back to the general ward today. Probably get out of here Tuesday after they remove the urine catheter and dialysis catheter. Bloodwork looks good, creatinine down to 112 this morning from 500+ pre-surgery. Everything else including b...

Re: T-1 week to transplant
Thanks Dean! All the Doctors and Nurses say I'm recovering remarkably well. I was lucid and asking for a cheeseburger when they wheeled me out of surgery:) Today I've been allowed to Wal around the room and to sit up in the chair and do some reading. Sister still has pain walks very slowly so I try ...

Re: T-1 week to transplant
Hi everyone I'm happy to report that the surgery went well. Both Sister and I are doing well, though she is still getting bouts of nausea from the morphine. The new kidney appears to be working well, pumping out 500-600ml of urine/hour. They are currently flushing me with lots of saline and the doc ...

Re: Started cyclosporine - urgh
Thanks, I did consider an allergic reaction for a moment and I did text my coordinator. Being a Sunday, I guess she was somewhere out of cell coverage, as she's usually pretty prompt to respond. The effects wore off after 4+ hours, with only the occasional 'hot' sensation in the extremities. I've ju...

Started cyclosporine - urgh
Just started my first dose of cyclosporine this morning, as a 'warm up' to transplant on Wednesday.. After the first 30 mins, my body felt hot all over, especially my hands and feet, then my chest.. a while later my body started itching all over. Interestingly, my measured body temperature was in th...

Re: T-1 week to transplant
Thanks everyone! Just back from the emergency room because the catheter exit wound was seeping blood the entire evening. Emergency staff couldn't really detect the cause so they changed the bandage and asked me to check with the dialysis center tomorrow when I come in for my dialysis. Guess I'll be ...

T-1 week to transplant
Hi all I am a week away from transplant. I must say that the time has passed by so quickly! Had a tunnel catheter put in yesterday and my first dialysis session yesterday, it was quick and not as bad as the dreadful process I was thinking it was going to be - or perhaps it's the same way for everyth...

Re: Can the gym affect your eGFR?
I was told by my doc that light to moderate exercise was OK, and even doing weights 3-4 times/week never affected my creatinine/eGFR by much. I think when your creatinine is still low then you don't need to worry that much, its only when you advance to later stages (when I started going >300) then I...

Re: Introduction: I have IgAN
Hi Erin Thanks so much for your post! I think it comes at the right time as I'm approaching surgery date and I've been asking myself all the same questions you've just provided some answers to. It's really great to have a community of people who can relate so I'm glad you took the time to post! :) I...

Re: Introduction: I have IgAN
THanks Chris I have a confirmed transplant date for mid-January.. doc says they will fast track me because I've not started dialysis yet, so will need to quickly get all the required tests done. I've got a follow up almost every week from now till the surgery, so I guess I'll be even more familiar w...

Thanks Matthew.
Turns out only one sister is the same blood group as I am, and we are both doing the cross match this week. Wish me luck

Re: IgA nephropathy troubles
I was diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy in 2002 -doctor told me I had about 10 years and I was also scared shitless, so I know what you're going through. My condition was pretty much stable for the last 10+ years until about 1.5-2 years ago. Then the creatinine started increasing and its been a rollerc...

Re: Jonah Lomu RIP
interestingly, he was fit as a fiddle.. would dialysis cause a heart attack? I always presumed that someone relatively healthy (without any other underlying conditions) could survive on dialysis for a long time.. RIP
