PatientView Results
Hello, I am Mrs Birdman. Unfortunately Birdman has been through the mill. The parathoidectomy was successful, but they had real problems removing a drain, and he lost a lot of blood. Like it took literally hours to staunch the bleeding. They had to change the bed twice whilst trying to do so. Then h...

Bicarb etc Not Reported on PatientView
I asked about this several years ago, when I was on PD. Now I am on HD at my local hospital, I still find that several of my blood test results are not showing on PV. I am on sodium bicarbonate tablets, so want to keep an eye on my Bicarb level. But it is "not available" on PV. For this (a...

Re: High PTH in UK
Thanks to everyone for their responses. I saw my consultant yesterday. My PTH level is still increasing, as is the blood test calcium reading. Renal bone disease is a distinct possibility unless something is done, so I am going having my parathyroid glands removed. Obviously no date yet, but I am ra...

Re: High PTH in UK
Hi ! There is an injection version of cinacalcet called Parsabiv (etelcalcetide) suitable for hemodialysis patients. This might give you less side effects than with cinacalcet. best regards Per Thank you very much Per156. I will certainly ask about the injection as well. I am extremely grateful for...

You may find this helpful :http://www.gpnotebook.co.uk/simplepage.cfm?ID=x20120702211632871479 I have not come across anyone with kidney problems who has had the gland removed, my own PTH levels have always been over 100. Thank you Wagolynn. I have just realised there are several common measures of...

Re: Lost the race
I was on PD until it went horribly wrong, resulting in an emergency neck line, then a fistula.
That was 18 months ago, and although I am on haemo at the local hospital 3 times a week, I am better now than I have been for a long, long time.
Hope this helps to reassure you.

High PTH in UK
I am concerned about my PTH. It goes up and down on blood tests, but this time it is the highest ever. My bloods were calcium 2.43; phosphate 1.63; PTH 107.3. My consultant has said in the past that readings of consistently over 80 will result in gland removal. Is this a given in the UK, or are ther...

Re: Blood Test Protocols
I think I have solved the problem by trying to understand the condition, and its treatment. Watching what happens within the unit, and listening to comments in the waiting are, most patients do not want to know what is going or why. I think of them as 'passive' patients. When I could hear reasonabl...

Re: ADVICE FOR HOSPITAL DEPARTMENT
I am a clinical psychologist putting together a case for our renal department to have one or more psychologists. The aim is to look at how the care is offered and to make sure that the human and emotional side of treatments are properly considered. I'd be grateful for any thoughts about what would,...

Re: Blood Test Protocols
Technically you need to give consent for a blood test to be taken. You are unable to give consent (even more so "informed consent") if you are not told that the test is being taken and what it will be tested for. You would be well within your rights to complain if tests are being taken an...

Blood Test Protocols
Hello again. Can anyone answer a question for me please? Now I am on haemo, bloods are naturally taken through the machine. The staff at my unit are absolutely wonderful, and caring beyond belief, but communication isn't a strong point. Last week they did monthly full bloods, and I knew what was goi...

Have you seen this for London:- http://www.guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/resources/patient-information/kidney/holiday-dialysis.pdf It may also be worth ringing the York unit to ask if they know of any other units in Yorkshire offe...
