Re: Side effects of post txt drugs

Alexliv, I was discharged from hospital on much the same combination of drugs. I was lucky not to have all those side effects but the tremor, hair loss and feeling a bit peculiar were all there. I think in my case they were trumped by the euphoria of getting a transplant. Looking at my weight I thin...

Re: How many have returned to work after transplant?

Yes. I did.
12 weeks post transplant. I felt able to go back sooner but my job involves dealing with the general public at close range. My consultant didn’t want people breathing over me too soon because of the immunosupression. It is however a desk job.

How long have you had your transplant?

I have had my transplant 2 1/2 years. It has been brilliant allowing me to get on with life and even on occasions forget I am a renal patient. I was talking to a fellow transplantee the other day. She said “I’ve had my kidney for 12 years, I expect it to last for another 8 years. So if I want to do ...

Re: Post TX Recovery

Congratulations on the new Kidney. The tiredness does go.. remember you have not been well and have had a big op. Well enough to return to work varies from one person to another. Those in clinic with me post transplant went back to work from 8 weeks to 6 months. Depending on what they did for a livi...

Re: New member needing support

Hi Nicola,, Isn’t it tough being a parent. I agree with Wagolyn. You can’t change the situation but you can be supportive (which I’m sure you are) for your son. If you look at this site you will see people who had transplants 20-30 years ago. They have had families, travelled, done sporty things liv...

Re: Transport to hospital after transplant

Ps. Public transport was discouraged immediately post transplant due to your new high levels of immunosuppression. It’s ok once your drugs are reduced after the first 12 weeks.

Re: Transport to hospital after transplant

Hi Beespatellas, Good Luck with your upcoming transplant. My transplant centre is also an hours drive away and almost impossible to get public transport to. I was lucky enough to have friends who took turns until I was able to drive. However the hospital arranged transport to the clinic for the firs...

Re: GP refusing to prescribe phosphate binders

In this case I don’t think it’s the GP. It’s a dictat from a higher authority.
It’s your consultant you need to talk to. He/she wants you to have a precpsciption, they should prescribe it.

Re: GP refusing to prescribe phosphate binders

Just looked up Tacrolimus on line. Apparently GP,S are not to prescribe for new transplant patients. Those patients whose GP’s do prescribe are to be “repatriated” back to consultant prescribing in the future. I know that not all GP’s have been prescribing anyway.
Again it’s quoted as a safety issue.

Re: GP refusing to prescribe phosphate binders

GP’s can’t prescribe Sevelamar in Surrey either. I’m told it’s because GP’s don’t have the experience in using it or the expertise to monitor it. As responsibility of safety and monitoring remain with the prescriber - the consultant needs to prescribe. It’s interesting though - my consultant monitor...

Re: Dialysis, when did you start..

Hi thegallops, I had my transplant 2 1/2 years ago and I’ve never looked back. I’m back to living life as normal. I feel “normal” what ever that is. My anti rejection drugs (Adoport and prednisone) don’t cause me any problems. I am aware I am slightly more prone to infections but it’s not a huge pro...

What an emotional rollercoaster.
Such a shame that a perfect match kidney was wasted.

Good Luck for next time.
