Sad news
It is with great sadness that I have to tell you my husband died last week just 20 months after having a kidney transplant. I came to this forum with several questions when he had his transplant and everyone on here was very helpful. I'd like to thank everyone for that. My husband had been on dialys...

Re: Diarrhea on Tacrolimus
Thank you for your replies. I'll get some arrowroot and see if it helps. I took my husband to his GP yesterday and he said he could do nothing for him. He can't have any painkillers as they'll react with the tablets he's taking. He is going for a colonoscopy in a couple of weeks time so I'll go with...

Re: Diarrhea on Tacrolimus
They are aware of the diarrhea problem but my husband is taking 15 tablets a day and the side effects of all of them include diarrhea. They don't seem to be worried about the fact that he can barely walk. When he goes to the hospital they just put him in a wheelchair so that they can move him around...

Diarrhea on Tacrolimus
My husband had a tx last November and his health has steadily declined since then. The kidney is working and the kidney function is increasing but the tablets he has to take are giving him severe diarrhea and they have given him diabetes. He can't go out anywhere unless he can be sure of getting to ...

Very interesting but we live in Cornwall so it's too far to travel for us.

Re: Top Tips for those going in to have a tx
Hi I had a live donor transplant and I wish I'd have realised that the anti rejection drugs can cause diabetes. If I had my time again I would cut out all sugar well before my transplant in the hopes that would help not get diabetes as I unfortunately now have Type 2 caused by anti rejection meds. ...

Re: Which transplant centre, Plymouth or Bristol? Thoughts p
My husband had a transplant at Derriford. The staff there were brilliant. He had to keep travelling back there twice a week for the first two months so ease of travelling is a consideration.

Re: Rapid decline of EGFR
My husband had a biopsy when his kidney function was declining. He was in hospital at the time as the eGFR had gone down rapidly to 15. If they had done the biopsy at an earlier stage they would have discovered that he had Anca vasculitis and they might have been able to save his kidneys. As it was ...

I think you were absolutely right to refuse the kidney. Don't beat yourself up about it. I wonder if anyone else refused it as well.

Re: Father-in-law Refusing Dialysis - Help
I have heard of people living with a kidney function of just 6%. My husband went on dialysis when his kidney function went down to 11%. After a short while he reached end stage kidney disease with hardly any function or no function at all so dialysis was essential for him. However he had a rare kidn...

Re: Bladder not emptying after tx
It may be due to prostate problems. He's going into hospital tomorrow where they'll fit a longer term catheter. He may also have a biopsy as Gfr is down.

Re: Bladder not emptying after tx
He's already seeing his transplant team twice a week and he's been in hospital this week. I'll get him to ask them about bladder control.

Bladder not emptying after tx
My husband has been told that his bladder isn't emptying properly after his transplant and he will have to use a catheter. They haven't said how long this is likely to go on or whether it's permanent. They've told him that he needs to get it checked once a week at his local surgery. I'm really quite...

Re: Very frequent urination after tx
Yes, they have said at the hospital that his bladder has shrunk and needs to stretch. Hopefully this will improve as time goes on. We have another worry now in that the latest blood test showed a drop in kidney function and they may want to do a biopsy.

Re: Very frequent urination after tx
The stent was removed a couple of weeks ago. My husband went to the transplant clinic today and all they could say is that it might get better. I hope so. At the moment its more restricting than dialysis as he can't go far from a toilet.
