Re: Kidney Disease Recovery

Hello Janak Has there been any improvement with your wife's hemoglobin level? Have you continued with the EPORISE? I remember when I had to start EPO in 2013 that they told me it takes several weeks I think for it to start working fully. I also needed the iron infusion first (as hemoglobin cannot be...

Re: 12th Transplantiversary

Hi keithjohnelliott. Thank you so much for this encouraging post! I am only 2 years and 8 months post transplant (combined kidney/pancreas) and I am only a 2/6 HLA match with my new organs (I understand lower HLA-match levels are more common away from the much larger kidney-only transplant list wher...

Re: Post transplant nightmares

I wake up in a panic every night. I think it probably happens in the first sleep cycle when I'm just dropping into deeper sleep. I wake up with a jolt, usually thinking that I haven't taken my drugs, or that I'm on holiday and haven't taken them for several days. Or that I haven't given my son his ...

Re: CAPD drains and swollen ankles

Hi If your father has only just had the PET (Peritoneal Equilibration Test) then this is still quite early stages of determining his therapy regime. In my case, I started my CAPD in October 2013 (once the Tenckhoff catheter inserted in early September had settled/sealed) but it wasn't until December...

Re: struggleing to find diagnosis even with biopsy!

I really think a session or two with a dietician is the best thing - ask your GP. They can talk about how to help get your weight to the preferred level without jeopardising other elements of your health. Dieticians often talk about balance - it is not necessary in many cases to cut out specific foo...

Re: struggleing to find diagnosis even with biopsy!

The diet I was using was to eat as much protein as I wanted but to restrict carbs (sort of unofficial Cambridge diet). Worst thing for me!!! Increased creatanine! What has your GP/dietician said about lowering your triglicerides level? Can you lower/cut out saturated fat intake to lower them but kee...

Re: struggleing to find diagnosis even with biopsy!

Chris, I started CAPD back in October when my eGFR got down to single figures. I am on APD now (hooked up overnight to a cycler machine). Also on transplant list but that is likely to be a long wait... :? The estimated GFR is based mainly on the waste products creatanine and urea building up in the ...

Re: struggleing to find diagnosis even with biopsy!

Yes - serum potassium. yours looks to be in the normal range so you shouldn't be restricting fruit and veg! (unless advised to by a healthcare professional!) Symbol for phosphates is PO4 on my results... My dietician has required me to keep my protein levels up now as I have started dialysis and you...

Re: struggleing to find diagnosis even with biopsy!

Hi with respect to your potassium and phospate worries - what are your blood levels currently? According to the Renal Patientview web pages where I can see all my historic blood results going back to 2009 (eGFR then was 35, potassium 5, phosphates 1.22) I was not restricting my diet other than to no...
