Re: Cycling and renal failure
Woah, sorry to hear that you are recovering from an accident Chris, that's grim. I can fully appreciate how frustrating this will be for you, although it sounds as though you need to rest your body for a bit to recover fully. Accidents on the bike can be truly awful so you have my sympathy. My longe...

Re: Cycling and renal failure
[quote="Chris Wright"][quote="R30"] I've already experienced the dreaded 'bonk' recently for the first time and am very keen to avoid it again. It was interesting to see you said that I should stop every hour, that may be where I'm going wrong. I'm used to putting in 3hrs without...

Re: Cycling and renal failure
Thanks for the info Stevie, really appreciate it. Unfortunately seeking information from my renal team has been a little disappointing: my consultant says I cannot use gels, or any other sports nutrition and then referred me to the dietician, while the dietician had no idea and referred me back to m...

Re: Cycling and renal failure
These look great, and thanks for the info. Unfortunately they only ship to the US or Canada and I'm in the UK. Never mind, it makes me realise that there are more products out there than I thought.

Re: Cycling and renal failure
Hi Chris, Thanks for your response; great to meet a fellow cyclist. Don't mind you posting it on your club forum at all - any help would be greatly received. There is no problem with the low k flapjack per se, but I'd rather be able to take something other than just them for the entire 100 miles. So...

Cycling and renal failure
Hi All, It's been a VERY long time since I posted on here regularly. Essentially I had a live kidney transplant from my mum in October 2004 that was doing well until I came down with glandular fever a year later, and then had a bout of rejection a couple of years later (lost 50% function in 10 days)...

Re: Anyone experienced worm-like white discharge in urine?
Every time I've noticed this in my urine it has been sent off for analysis. Every time the hospital have told me that it's excess protein and nothing to be concerned about. Also tends to happen in women more if they are menstruating as well.

Re: EBV Virus
I also had EBV less than a year after my transplant in 2004, although I didn't - thankfully - get PTLD. I work at a boarding school so there's always a risk that I'll pick up some type of viral infection. What I found was that my transplant started fairly fast rejection with the EBV; I went from 63%...

Re: I don't know what to expect.....
Hi Kevin, I had a live donation in October 2004 from my mum...she was 70 at the time. Both of us are doing well and at the age of 82 now she is still going strong. As others have said, the hospital will test any potential donor until they are fed up to the back teeth (not literally), but this is all...

Disability Discrimination Act
Dear all It has been quite a while since I posted on here, and it is good to see so many new 'faces'. :D I've run into a potential problem at work over the past couple of days requiring me to check out the DDA as mentioned above, and would invite your views. I cannot find exactly where in the DDA we...

Yep, memory loss has been a constant problem for me since I had anaemia before I started dialysis (now transplanted 2.5 years). Unfortunately it's not got better with me, but taking cod liver oil does seem to help a little - in terms of the fact that I can at least recognise faces around me (just ki...

Hey Keith Sorry to hear of your intolerance issues. Not being on steroids myself, I can't claim 'roid rage, but do find myself going through periods of intense irritability and intolerance post-tx. Somedays (such as today) when I am hanging with tiredness, I am serene and calm as even the thought of...
