Hi Mike, A Permacath is what I've been using (aka neckline) but they are not generally used for long term dialysis because of the risk of infection. I'm coming up for a year of use of mine (I miscalculated earlier because of the PD attempt) and they are anxious that I don't use it for too much longe...

Thankyou all, for taking the time to listen and reply. This morning I am feeling just a little better about it all. The HD nurses last night were wonderful and I left there not only dialysed to the eyeballs but with a plan. This morning first thing I rang our lovely renal counsellor (I have refused ...

Vent - plus advice needed.
Hi All Ever since I started dialysis I have had an absolute horror of having a fistula. This has continued despite all my efforts to be reasonable. When I started PD I thought that particular problem was at least out of the way. Then PD failed miserably and I had to go back to HD. Despite everyones ...

I used to put my bags in the airing cupboard for a few hours before I needed them! But the hospital did offer me a heater if I wanted one. Then I switchesd to APD so it didn't matter anyway. I used an S hook to hang the bags on. There was another post about this recently and apparently you can get t...

Tamazepam works for me for a few weeks at a time. 20 mg. At the moment I am trying Gabapentin as I get virtually no sleep because of RLS. It seems things work for a few weeks and then stop working. So now I rotate drugs and things are fine. When one stops working I use another and then back to the or...

Try this: http://www.dialysisatsea.com/about.aspx There are a few companies that do cruises with dialysis. Many have to be flown out to and the NHS doesn't cover the dialysis bit so it can be a bit expensive when you add in the treatment. I researched this a few months back so put 'dialysis cruise s...

I am not post-transplant but have been on a lot of immuno-suppressive drugs over the last 2.5 yrs due to cancer and Goodpasture's disease including 2 lots of chemotherapy etc. I have about 8 cats, most of whom are feral but I have 2 'domestic' cats, one of which is an inveterate bird catcher of grea...

I have the same attitude as Tom. While I have no intention of doing myself harm by ignoring fluid restrictions / diet altogether I'm a great believer in Quality of Life - if I'm thirsty I'll drink a bit extra and not worry about it. If I fancy a chinese takeaway then I'll have one, albeit rarely! Li...

For some people, yes, there is such a thing as too much information. Some people want no information at all. (Strange but true) I need MASSES of information and in depth too. But over a period of time. I think the problem arises mainly if it is given ALL AT ONCE. Given in small dollops with time to ...

Hi Amit, Yes you definitely qualify for free prescriptions. You have a wound (exit site) that requires a permanent dressing on it and that is what qualifies you. Ask your Dr. to fill in the correct form that you then have to sign and send off. They are pretty fast at sending the proper card back to ...

Firstly, welcome to the board. :) There are very friendly and helpful folk on here - I, for one, would be lost without them! You've certainly been through the mill ! I've had advanced cervical cancer (2004) followed by Goodpasture's (2006) and consequent renal failure, am currently on HD having trie...
