Statutory Benefits
As a renal patient in the UK you may be entitled to a number of statutory benefits:
  • Attendance Allowance (if aged over 65 years)

  • Disability Living Allowance - for personal care/mobility (65 years and under)

  • Statutory Sick Pay

  • Incapacity Benefit

  • Severe Disablement Allowance

  • Income Support

  • Disability Premium

  • Carer’s Premium

  • Disability Working Allowance - to encourage a return to work

  • Exemption from prescription charges - dialysis patients only

  • Invalid Care Allowance (carers)

  • Parking permits - for the disabled

  • Social Fund - if in receipt of Income Support

  • Council Tax reduction if using a room at home for dialysis

  • Electricity allowance if using home dialysis machine

  • Invalid Care Allowance (carers)

The Renal Unit’s Social Worker can help you with any claims for benefits you may be entitled to. If your unit has not got a Social Worker, one of the nurses may have developed an interest or you could use the Citizens Advice Bureau.
