You may start with the following link; it might not feed you with what *exactly* you are interested in. This is a past course at Brown university in Biotechnology, in particular the current held research in Bioartificial Kidney.

http://biomed.brown.edu/Courses/BI108/B ... fault.html

Please go and navigate throgh the course website. Each article or link in the left-navigation provides further references, some are available on the Net.
(Don't forget to read about the Bioartificial Kidney.)

Hope this helps you out

nutrient data

Post by Cheryl in CT »

The website shown below will give you the nutrient content (including protein, sodium, potassium, phosphorous, etc) of any number of foods, both fresh and packaged. I printed out the whole thing and used it a great deal during the time I was on a special renal diet, pre-transplant.

If your aunt does get in to see a nephrologist, she should be able to get guidelines for recommended daily allowances for each of her "restricted" categories (such as 2.5 mg/day of this one, or 5 mg/day of that one...) She may also ask to be referred to a renal dietician to help her prepare a balanced meal plan.

For me, the easiest thing was to check my printed list and decide what I could have that would keep me below my restricted amounts - having it all together on one list really made things much easier for me.

Hope this helps!

all the best,
Cheryl

Hi Cris

My husband and I have a renal dietician, who has been a great help to us.

As you said everyone is very different as to whta they can and cant eat.

I know its a pain, but my advice to you would be contact your neph again and find out if you have a renal dietician that could help you.

Thanks
